Hi all,

Do any of you boffins know if it possible to override the kick-down when driving in manual mode? For example, I'm in manual mode and in 5th gear and I press the accelerator to the floor - the car will drop to 4th or maybe 3rd. Is there any way to avoid this?

The reason I ask is that I had my car Revo'd last week and the Revo agent was a bit unsure about dyno'ing a DSG as he's never dyno'd one before and said that the results would not be accurate as you need to be able to do a 100% throttle run in the gear closest to a 1:1 ratio (which he said would usually be 5th gear). He said the DSG kick-down at full throttle would mess up the results. How did you DSG owners who've been dyno'd get over this issue?

Last time I had mine rolling roaded they used 4th gear?!? :undecided:

Max Q,

If you quickly remove your DSG box and slot in a 'proper' 6spd manual then you should find that it will remain in the desired gear regardless of throttle position.

Thanks, but I was hoping for an easier solution!

I read on a different forum that if you press and hold the '+' paddle and then give it full throttle it will prevent the box from downshifting. Must give this a try tomorrow and see if it works.

....Well that's totally logical if you think about it! By doing so you are continually sending the instruction.

dont you just put your foot down but not activate the kickdown switch at the full travel of the peddle?

if im in manual i can put my foot down in 5th at 40mph and it doesnt 'kick down' into a lower gear unless i put my foot to the floor and feel the switch being pressed.

So I tried this today and it does work. If you press and hold the '+' paddle it will initially shift up a gear but if you keep the paddle pressed you can give it full throttle up to and including the kick-down and it will not downshift. Give it a go.

Do I get a prize for answering my own question?
