DSG Kick-down override?

Hi all,

Do any of you boffins know if it possible to override the kick-down when driving in manual mode? For example, I'm in manual mode and in 5th gear and I press the accelerator to the floor - the car will drop to 4th or maybe 3rd. Is there any way to avoid this?

The reason I ask is that I had my car Revo'd last week and the Revo agent was a bit unsure about dyno'ing a DSG as he's never dyno'd one before and said that the results would not be accurate as you need to be able to do a 100% throttle run in the gear closest to a 1:1 ratio (which he said would usually be 5th gear). He said the DSG kick-down at full throttle would mess up the results. How did you DSG owners who've been dyno'd get over this issue?

youve already staged 1 on an 08 plate!  , i havent had mine done, im gonna wait till my vw warranty is closer to expire. i havent heard anyone else had this told to them, especially if its revo.

Yep, thought long and hard about it. It boiled down to this - I have a 2 year warranty, can I wait for 2 years to have my car remapped? Answer was No!

I'm so glad I did. The car is phenomenal now. It was good before, but it's just a different car now. I would definitely recommend it to every GTI owner looking to unlock the true potential of this car and engine. It's a personal choice obviously, and your warranty is worth protecting, but the risks with a recognised and respected tuning company are extremely low.

.... I had my DSG GTI Stage1 Revo'd at about 20,000 miles (if I recall correctly, I'm now on 45,000).

My Revo tuner (Jim of JKM Portsmouth) didn't have any trouble dyno-ing my car - i remember him talking about it but knowing what to do.

No not on the road, just wondering if it's possible to override the kick-down at full throttle for a dyno run.

Haven't tried it myself, but doesn't putting the car into manual mode using the gearstick rather than the pedals stop the car self-changing?

In manual mode you can rev to the red line without the car self-changing but if you press the pedal all the way down and touch the kick-down switch it will drop a gear or two even in manual mode.

....The DSG has several engine self-protection features programmed in:-

- You can't over rev the engine, it will change gear to protect itself even if you are in Manual.

- Even if in Manual, when you come to a stop while still in 2nd, it will automatically select 1st gear.
