no paddleshift on some DSG models ?

These can be retro-fitted by your dealer - about £300. Had DSG with paddles on my 3.2 Audi, Have DSG without padddles on my GTI, don't miss the paddles.

05 plates can still have main dealer warranty, mine does. Theres another thread on here about extending the VW Warranty - think its about £400 for an extra year.

I'd look more at the overall condition of the car than the number on the registration.

If your prepaired to look around theres a few gti's being sold for around £12,000,i've noticed the price of gti's dropping quite a bit.

if the car is in good condition with a decent spec and you can afford the money then i dont see anything wrong with paying what you mentioned.

i paid 15995 for my 05 plate from a main dealer, got an extended warranty, 4 new tyres and new discs and pads all round in the deal.

theres not a mark on the car, leather still nice and fresh and fully loaded apart from the xenons and MFSW.

i got 4.5k for my trade in and was happy with the deal, im not going to stress thinking i could have or should have paid less, more than happy with the purchase.

would be interested to hear if main dealers do actually retro fit the dsg paddles though, the only thing mine doesnt have that i wish it does

Slighty off the wall comment for this thread,  but whats the point of having a DSG without the paddles?, might as well have a traditional auto ..........anyone else got any thoughts on this?

For me the ability to swap cogs like a manual but faster and with full control of the steering wheel is what makes the DSG car so quick, and if you left brake, then the car really comes alive, if you need to keep nudging the gear lever with your left hand you might as well as gone for the 3 pedals and saved some wonga in the process in my opinion,

To be honest I wanted a performance automatic with a hatchback for the dog so Golf GTI DSG fit the bill. Never liked golfs before but I do like this one. There aren't many other auto options in this ball park eg - VXR & ST don't come with Auto boxes and the 330 Clubsport SSG doesnt have the required boot.

Try a little experiment cruise at 40-50 in D then knock the lever into S - You'll have dropped from 6th to 3rd via the box quicker than you can with the paddles. Therefore even if I had paddles thats what I'd use when wanting to make rapid progress.

My missus and I both had 3.2 Quattro A3's with DSG and we both chose to use the Sport mode over the paddles everytime.

But as I said previously if I do ever feel like I'm missing out £300 will solve the issue, so if you find the perfect GTI in mint condition don't disregard it because it doesn't have padddles, just budget £300 into your purchase price.

Don't get on the SSG route, you end up looking like the parcel shelf nodding dog with one of those, hence why the new M3 2 pedal will be a DSG type copy twin clutch affair   ,  must have been a lot of Germanic corporate pride swallowed on that one, bet they are p*ssing their pants in Wolfsburg at the Munchen boys climbdown

The S option is OK, but you are still leaving control to the computer, and thats not what I am looking for, but it is down to personal preferences.

Did they change certain things on the GTI from 2005 onwards?

When i go to buy parts from the dealer they always ask is it the model 2005 and above? Same when i serch through webites for mods it always lists 2004 54- 2005 05 model or 2006 55 upwards???

ive noticed a couple of changes from my o5 to 07 GTi and thats, the quality of leather feels different in the 07(feels a cheaper quality). The highline computer is slightly different in display.The dashboard upper half is More black above the sliver trim then grey like the old.Steering wheel is now black rather then grey.Buttons on the Multifunction wheel are in reverse sides of the wheel.My silver ashtray cover has gone from the 07 model, replace by a black one  , the car mats are now no longer a turn lock in the floor to a straight pin style which doesnt look as strong.Ive noticed that the annoying seat belt on the passenger door, which use to knock against the side of the pillar now has a convieniant sown loop on the back of the belt fabric to cushion it hitting the pillar.
