Anthracite Blue 55 plate @ £16,000 - help!
« on: 11 March 2008, 15:55 »
After binning my order for a brand new GTI, I've been looking around for 2-3 year old car and I've found a GTI in blue for £16k.  The spec is good (leather, 18's etc), it's done 30,000 miles which isn't bad and the condition is fantastic, but is it good value for money?

Well to give you an idea, I paid £14K + my part ex worth about £1k for the following.

Was originally priced at £16850, but was reduced to £15850 and thats when I made them an offer.

5 Door Silver 05 plate GTI DSG - found the cars with DSG were approximately £1K more than their manual equivalent on the used market.

Mileage - 31,000 miles. One previous owner. Enthusiast who part exed it against a Edition 30 they had.

Unmarked Leather Interior
Winter Pack
Unmarked 18" Alloys
Rear Parking Sensors
2 Brand New Tyres - Old ones were legal but not too much left on them so negotiated.
6 months road tax - Again had to haggle for that.

Stunning Condition overall

VW Warranty until June/July. 12 Months Volvo Used Car Warranty (Purchased from Volvo Main Dealer)
Excellent Finance Rate.

I maybe could've got a slightly better deal if I'd been prepared to travel halfway round the country, but it might be a bit cheaper but you don't know what sort of condition it'll be in. Plus having had a very bad experience with an Audi dealership that was too far away for me to go back and complain too I wanted to purchase locally.

thats about right for that age car, remember your paying dealer price with 1 years warranty, when you buy private you dont get such a thing!. ive had been living on vw's website for 3 weeks for a GTi and that price is about corrrect. Does it list any other extra's??? xenons, sat nav, luxury pack, multidisc and armrest???, these do make a huge difference in price if sold by a vw dealer.

Black 05 plate @ £14k - help!

Just found another deal, how about this one?

2005 05 Plate GTI

3 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 23000 miles, Black, Remote Central Door Locking, Immobiliser, Inclination Sensor Alarm, Anti-Lock Brakes, Power-Assisted Steering, Driver Information System Computer, Rake/Reach Adjustable Steering Column/Wheel, Body Coloured Bumpers, Front Electric Windows, Ten Speakers, Radio/CD, Front Fog Lights, Automatic Dipping Rear View Mirrors Internal, Electric/Heated Mirrors External, Paint Metallic, Front Armrest, Driver/Passenger Seat Height Adjustment, Front/Rear Head Restraints, Driver/Passenger Seat Lumbar Support, Electronic Stability Programme, Five Seats Seating Capacity, Full Size Alloy Spare Wheel, Upholstery Leather, Climate Control, 18in Alloy Wheels, Air Bag Driver, Air Bag Passenger, Air Bag Side. £14,050

Price seems a bit low to me compared to what I've been looking at, however the dealer said there's been a few calls about the car so I am going to have a look at it first thing tomorrow.

Good spec for the price?  Or would it be best to avoid a 05 plate?

Only options there look like the leather, 18" Monza's and the sound system (standard is 8 speakers) all the rest is standard. It doesn't specify High or Midline trip computer either (just says driver information system computer). Decent price though. If it is advertised at £14k then I'd go for it at £13.5k. It still has a few months warranty and you can always ask about extending it.
