7 speed DSG has been designed for the lower capacity engines.  More gears on a smaller capacity engine mean you can get more out of it.

I've heard in the press over here that they won't be putting a V6 lump in it, but may be offering up 295bhp out of the 2.0L FSI turbo.  Should be interesting enough......

....Sounds like a higher tuned Ed30 2.0T FSI engine - Quite a practical and likely option I would guess.

Its obvious they will offer a higher output TFSI as they have already done this succesfully with the ED30 and have the 4WD R32 drivetrain on the same chassis, so I think we could easily see the full S3 spec engine fitted with 4WD in an R version, which would give better MPG than a R32. I can't see them offering anything more than 250PS or 260PS max so as not to mess with the R32 and Audi brand.

I would deffo swop the ED30 for one of the above, as I'm tempted now to go for a diet 2.0 TFSI one now!

Come on VW release some teaser info on an R model.

Was just checking.

There wont be any bigger engine than the 2.0 T. 200BHP.

Thats not the thinking behind the car, its not a replacment for the golf or indeed designed to run along side it.
Its a Coupe, and will probably only sell to those not interested in having the flexibiltiy of the golf.
Numbers wise probably and i'm guessing but if vw sell 2 to 3 thousand models then they will be Happy.

The scirocco biggest engine was 1.8-litre 16V 139bhp
The Corrado biggest engine 2.9-litre VR6 190bhp

The new scirocco biggest engine will be 2.0 200bhp.

Its not in competition with the golf, and if you want a 1.4 tsi dsg 7 speed then you will need to buy a golf.

All the above has come direct from VW.

....Then VW clearly don't bother to listen to what their loyal customers want!!

In spite of what you report, vw_sales, and I know it's only speculation, but I reckon there will be a bigger variant than 200 bhp offered in time.

Out of relevant interest, do you know what rough percentage of GTI/R32 customers are enthusiasts and therefore if the 'ordinairy it's just a car' are the biggest market, or not, for GTI/R32's? You are in VW Sales, so what type of customers do YOU see?

Thanks

I would guess that 80% of all Gti / R32 Owners are enthusiasts.

The rest just buy it for look or to own the GTI versions.

VW in my opinion do listen to the loyal customers, and they know that you as a golf owner would probably buy when the time comes another golf.

The scirocco will be bought buy owners of

Honda Civic Sport Coupe
Toyota Celica coupe biggest engine 1.8 vvtli (190 bhp), not made now, but change cycle.
BMW 325 Ci SE Coupe
Mercedes C Sport Coupe ( possibly)

If i take my VW hat off only for a second, VW have in my opinion decided to enter every group within the market, we had no 4x4 to sell in the land rover freelander/rav 4 range so they have the tiguan, there is no very small car, so they will bring out the UP, IF THEY CALL IT THAT.

The Scirocco is here simple because we dont have a coupe, so they gave free rain to a design team and said go do it.
Can i put my hat back on now, my head is cold.

....Thanks for answering that .

I always wondered what the percentage might be and your guesstimate is higher than I expected but very good news. I am of the opinion that a GTI is wasted on someone who isn't an enthusiast.
