Spot on Stevie, just have to vote with your feet sometimes, still the wife is happy with it, so not all bad, then again she's not the one who has to take it into the stealers and get it all sorted, plus I still get to use it as a towcar when I need to

Put the gti into the dealers this morning to get the cruise control fixed, the service manager told me someone had been working on it for 5 hrs and they fitted a new arm and its still not working, so someone else will look at it tomorrow.Im beggining to think some of the staff have'nt got a f$ckin clue. Also asked for a courtesy car and was told all cars were out and would be for 3 weeks, not a good sign.

That is just not good enough service. I'm not suprised your ownership of a GTI has been tarnished. To say all courtesy cars are unavailable for 3 weeks is a load of crap IMHO . I'm sure even VW_sales would agree on that one.

Yep thats bull.

If they need to they can take a car off another member of staff.( sales staff, service manager, body shop if they have one).

Or most dealerships now has relief cars, when a car need warranty work they have to have a car available, its VW law so to speak.

However in there defence cruise is a major pain the bum, we have very good tech's and they always have problems with the cruise when it breaks.

VW_sales i was wanting to ask you when my car was in getting the new ecu fitted it took vw 5 days to fix this problem and on the 4th day i phoned up to see what was happening, anyway the service manager told me if it was'nt fixed by day 5 they would need to hand it over to vw uk because they only get allocated so many hours for waranty work and they had spent enough time on my car,at this point i was nearly going down and dragging him out the showroom. Is this true about the hours given for warranty work .

Yes mate, All work has time units attached to it.

So to fit a mobile phone kit is 92 Tu ( time units)

100 tu= 1 hour.

If the book says to fix and ecu is say in your example 5 days and its not fixed.

Vw have to give authority to carry on, because vw uk will pay the technician.

Mad work, but its to stop dealers conning money out of vw.

'no courtesy cars available for the next 3 weeks, sir' seems to be a standard line every time I call VW in Ventura Park, but then again everyone but the parts dept. down there seem incredibly inept.

I know VW have to authorise repairs after a certain time, but reading the above, the total of 5 weeks mine spent in repairs last year, it would have been cheaper all round to scrap it and give me another one I guess, thats not including the near daily monologue I was having with VW Cust service, to be fair in the end, the car come back actually working, but the sheer stress of constantly having to press for action, and keep the pressure up to get things fixed finally takes its toll, and changes your view of the brand forever.
Overall VW is probably no worse than most major manufacturers, it's just the the UK dealer system is crap, and VW UK being just as incompetent, hide behind the fact that dealers are only their agents, and basically they finger point at each other, whilst the customer gets caught in the firing line.
