Kudos to vw_sales for his whole attitude. Knowing about what disgruntles customers as well as the goods you sell help make a good sales person. Unfortunately there are not enough of you out there. Few people nowadays looks at things long term, always thinking of the quick buck can be made. The funny thing is that they rarely start out that way and usually only bend due to pressure from above (management).

I have purchased two new cars in a space of three years. In the first case I purchased a Corolla. It had a scratch on delivery that took 14 days to fix due to the dealer tryng different methods and then finally going back to Toyota for approval for full panel respray. Great car for what I wanted at the time (these are good reliable cars and represent value for money), but guess what .. NEVER went back to that dealership for service or another car and it made me think before buying my second new car. Mistake for that dealer and poor luck to Toyota as my second new car is not an updated Corolla but .. yep you guessed it .. a Mk V GTI!

Though money is important, I find my problem is, that as I am paying a premium, I want an "experience" during the sales process. I want to be treated like I think I should be - my perceptions count .. no-one elses. Unfortunately as stated previously sales people become immune to the fact that the contact they have each day is one that occurs only once every three or more years for us. With my first car, my experience was shattered by the need to continually return the car to have some scratches fixed. I did not want to go through that again so went to my dealer looking for the experience. Time will tell on this second purchase as I have not yet received it .. although it was supposed to be deleivered at latest today!

Phil Mcavity, not who u think i am, but glad to know i have a clone.

What people sometimes forget is i am only in control of certain things, i speak to the customer and sell the car.
The my manager orders it, someone else delivers it

I then look and try to check it, but covered in plastic and dirt its difficult
then a mechanic will pdi it.
The valetor will clean it.

I dont really see the car until i'm about to deliver it.

So if there is a problem that has occured since i have looked at it, its often to late to sort, but what ever happens, because i'm the point of contact, i have to deal with the hassle, which aint a problem because its my job, but sometimes i can get hassle for things i have no control over.
(i.e problems that occur down the line, epc light, windows, central locking)
And the reason that some sales people dont care about you mate is that most, not all, but most just stay at a dealership for less than 3 years, so they will probably only sell you one car, they then move to a differant brand.
My advise, speak to the lonest serving sales person, he then will hopefully give you more time and help more because he wants you back in 3 years.

I'm pretty miffed with dealerships/salesmen at the moment.  Check out this other thread:

Things like this are very annoying.

I hope it gets sorted, but with the garage you bought the car from will you buy another from them or the garage who have fixed the car, and bent over  backwards to help.

I bet i know which.

Exactly, vw_sales.

I probably wouldn't buy a car from Norwich (who were good), as I live in Cheshire, but I've recommended that garage to my family who do live there.  I now wont touch the garage in Chester (where I bought it from) with a 20 mile long pole.  Thankfully there are 2 other dealerships which are closer to me, so I don't need to.

As I said in that other thread, this is the second time I've had to complain about vw dealerships/service, but when I had my Subaru Impreza, all the main dealers I went to were great.  I think that European car companies have a lot to learn from the Japanese in terms of customer service.

While we are on the subject i,l mention a couple of expieriences with dealers.

REG VARDY DARLINGTON  absolute crap. all they wanted to do was get me in and out and sell me expensive finance.

REG VARDY  STOCKTON  AS ABOVE  should have learned the first time!

LOOKERS VW M,BORO  ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!! NO PRESSURE FRIENDLY SALES GUY EXCELENT AFTER SLES AND WARANTY WORK

BENFIELD MOTORS VW NEWCASTLE 2 CARs FROM THEM AGAIN NO PRESSURE VERY FREINDLY an VERY GOOD TRADE IN PRICES and GOOD RATE FINANCE.

PRESTON HALL BMW STOCKTON   VERY UNFRIENDLY EXTREMELY SNOBBISH(eg just cos i had trainers and ripped jeans on they look at you up and down and think you cant afford product) and I BOUGHT A 29K M3!!!!!

PULMAN VW DURHAM  OK BIT STINGY WITH COSTS WOULDNT BUDGE AT ALL BUT GOT A FAIR DEAL GOOD AFTER SALES.

All in all i have found the VW dealers good who i have dealt with over the years so cant really grumble.
But what p****s me off so much and i bet you guys agree is when the salesman " goes and talks to his manager " what a load of bollocks.
Chrissy.

Totally agree with Richy about vw dealers/service and aftersales is just not good enough in my opinion, and ive used 4 or 5 different dealers. But have to say when i ran a civic type r for 2 years the service from honda was first class and in that period not one waranty claim.

Trying to find decent service in the car trade, is like trying to win the lottery, odds stacked well against you, over many years of buying new and used motors, I have only come across the odd salesman that has been worth his pay cheque.  You are treated as a complete idiot by most, sorry vw_sales, can't tar all traders with the same brush, but most in my opinion are at the same level as politicians, utter dross.

On the subject of VW, got to say the dealer back up and VAG Customer Service is just about the worst I have ever come across, on my second Golf Mk5, but although the car is great to drive, the build quality/reliability is just second rate compared to the competition, thought I was unlucky with the first one, but the second just proved that the VW quality was just another myth, and many of the threads on forums seem to back that up.  So in the end, I have given it to the wife and bought myself something else.

What I don't get is that my motorbike, is used and abused daily, gets covered in everything from grit, mud, rain to salt, has many exposed electronic components, revs to 13K,  but never goes wrong,  even after I have thrashed it around a track all day......then why do so many cars suffer electrical/electronic/mechanical problems?,  anyone got any ideas?
