Techniclutches - Any good?
« on: 26 February 2008, 14:10 »
I've just bought one on ebay cause my mk2 seems to be fooked!

Racing up in all gears etc... so I've not had a proper chance to rag it yet!

Quote
THIS COMPLETE BRAND NEW FAST ROAD THREE PART DIRECT REPLACEMENT FAST ROAD CLUTCH ASSEMBLY CONTAINS:

-Brand new Organic driven plate

-Brand new heavy duty clutch cover

-Release bearing

-Clutch pivot ring

-Sachet of high melting point clutch spline grease

How much of a pain is it to get it fitted? I've not got any mechanical abilities at all (computer nerd you see).

I was going to just get a garage to fit it as I want to keep the service history up. What should I be expecting to pay?

£100 - £200 depending on their labour rates. It's a bit of crappy job.

Hi!

We rate Techniclutches.
We have used the Techniclutches for all our Vauxhall projects, I have one in my Calibra Turbo 4x4 running over 300bhp, and on of my staff has on  in his Golf AUM 2001 pushing 230BHP without any problems.
The clutch feels very still and hard due to the uprated springs on the cover plate. not much room for slipping the clutch and it take a lot to get used to.

My mate had no end of problems with them, I know you didnt buy it of them direct but when he did they sent and charged for 2 clutches. He sent one back and was charged £15 re stocking charge...... And when he phoned up he said "look mate can we sort this" And straight away the bloke at techniclutch said "im not ure mate"!!!  Nice customer service! Just a word of warning for anyone going to buy from them.
Oh and his clutch lasted 6 months and then had to be replaced again.......
Perhaps his one a one off?

It goes to show you could have the best product on the market, but with attiude, penny pinching (£15) and poor customer service, then the name Techniclutches get grouped as a bad product as a whole.
When using any company you want thw whole package from then,  good product that works, support & back up, help and advice, Good customer serivce.

If you buy online they cannot charge you a restocking fee if it is with in 14 days of delivery.

In that case I can't wait to get my new one in... I pulled into the fast lane on the m25 today coming back from Essex and the revs just rode to 6k and I didn't speed up... poor person behind me :(

I've decided to take it easy in the old girl and only use it if I need some milk etc :)

Anyone recommend any garage near or preferably in St Albans that wont want a kidney and or to steal my anal innocence!?

How much do you know about mechanics? Im a computer engineer by trade but decided to have a go at doing mine, and it was relatively straight forward!
