I used to have a 3 door when I had my Mk4, flippin pain in the ar5e, made sure I got 5 door GTI, dont give a stuff about looks, 3 or 5 doors, you still put your foot down and it goes like the clappers and you dont have people scrabbling to get in and out of the back.  you know it makes sense.   :nerd:

If you have a family to lug around then I can see why people want a 5 door, but 3 doors looks the tits.

5 door all the way. i used to be a 3 door person but in my opinion the golf looks alot more composed and sporty in the 5dr. The way the car look is obviously down to personal opinion so I doubt anyone saying they like the look of the 3/5dr will sway your opinion. But simply put why have 3 when you can have 5??

I also find the boot latch of the golf quite annoying and in crap weather means your hands are always getting dirty opening and closing the boot. the solution is to quite simply throw stuff on the back seat! It also saves alot of hassel getting people in and out, as a couple of 3dr owner seem to have problem getting their seats back to the original position... something that I hate doing is having my seat moved!

....I often have 3 jailbait teenage girlies (my daughter's friends) in the back seat. Also, a 450W Mackie amp I can only just carry plus music gear with back seats down. The rear doors on a 5-door seriously help access and loading/unloading. Also when I've carried a spare set of 4 wheels with tyres etc.

Unexpectedly I find the 5-door looks more attractive and its looks don't need to be compared with other 3-door hot hatches. Plus a narrow garage space is a very practical consideration, AND reaching for the safety belt!!

i have to say that i think the 3 door looks the better car (my last car was 3 door) but with family being planned the 5 door is a must.  To be honest, when your driving it makes no difference how the car looks on the out side!

simple answer, if you are a family man........get a 5 door. Much more practical and Residuals are slightly higher.
If you dont have kids and no OLD relatives, or you like putting door dings in cars nxt to you. Get a 3 door.

Both look the bizzniss, ones not any better looking then the other imo. Both class.

I Like the look of the 3 dr better than the 5 door....and I have a 5dr!!

However it was a necessity due to elderly parents, family etc (my only concession )

If I didn't need the 2 extra doors or to ferry extras about then who knows what I would have bought.

IMO 5 door looks much better....................more masculine and less Renault Clio!  Practicalities far superior with 5 door...........ease of reaching for seat belt, windows that open in the back to name two of many!  I believe re-sale value is greater also.

masculine, haha!
There is nothing more masculine that a 3-door high-output-engine coupe, and 3-door GTI E30 is kind of like that.

I have a 5-Door, and it is my first 5 Door ever. I think the 3 Door looks slightly better, but not enough to lose the increased practicality and the great feeling of space inside that the 5-Door has.

Plus I now have a big dog that takes up most the boot so luggage usually ends up on my back seats and the 5-Door is the easiest for that.
