Thanks Hurdy!

Yeah, S3 may be slower, but it is also underpowered compared to yours. If it had 300+ hp I wonder what kind of times one could get. And don't mention the war.. err I mean the wet.

I reckon that the straight-line in-gear times would be very similar between a remapped ED30 and a remapped S3 as they would both have similar power, the S3 is slightly heavier, but then counters with the 4WD.I would have to give this one to the ED30.

Over the twisties I have no doubt that the S3 would be the faster tool, although the DSG gearbox on the ED30 counters slightly as it means you can concentrate on the road and not the gears.

In the wet, then it would be the S3 that easily has the point-to-point performance edge.

So, basically, what you need is a straight, pothole-less and dry road, and then you take S3 for a liiitle ride.
That's not much, but hey, S3 costs very much more. (I am considering it from a point of view of someone who does not like 5-door hatches, and is not too attached to DSG).

The key point I left out is that the S3 feels a little too good at what it does point to point and as such isn't half as much fun. It doesn't even give you the fun of listening to a V6 like the R32 does.

I remember watching a clip on youtube of the germans comparing the R32 to the S3 round a track. the S3 won by about 2-3secs but it didnt sound half as nice! Included the previously featured sebine shmitz (atleast thats how i think you spell it)

Well, there is non-resonated Milltek, aha?!
So R32 sounds biffier, so what? For me this is not a choice factor. Besides, I like how TFSI sounds.
Conclusion: choice R32-S3 = S3.
