Mk3 GTi 8v ABS
« on: 21 February 2008, 14:03 »
Right, noticed that the ABS dont work on my car.

Checked and the light does not come on, on the dash when you turn the ignition on.

From my previous experience with other cars, i know that the probes at the back of the car get dirty - so im hoping its this.
Only other thing is i have noticed that a few people have commented that the pump has broken - i know how much these are so hoping its not that!

Anything i have missed or any other thoughts?

Thanks for any help - the car is a late 96 8v with an AGG.

Your problem is, if the light does NOT come on when u start the car. The bulb has been taken out to avoid that fact its broken. So First put a workin bulb in, once the light comes on and stays on you know theres a fault.

Its MORE than likely that its the front sensors (i changed mine today ) They are only around £15 each from either GSF or eurocar parts. And there is a how do thread here:

That just about covers it all, hope that helps and you can get it workin soon, but get the bulb working first.

And if you in doubt, slam the anchors on, and if u skid, its not working

In that case, get yourself a multimeter if you dont have one, and test the sensors as shown in the thread i linked you.

I tested my front 2 yesterday with a multi meter (longest part is gettin the wheel off!!)

Bought a new sensor today and fitted it, now my light goes off, and abs works fine.

So yeah, new bulb, then multi meter them to test the resistance, the one that is lower that 1.0khm or over 1.3khm or peaks around is broken.

The ABS light should come on when you turn the ignition on then go out after about 3 seconds after the engine has started.  so if the bulb isnt coming on when you turn the ignition on then the bulb is either missing or blown.

Yep, you can just solder a new one in. Or there is a whole unit for sale in the for sale threads.
