BTW - what's the small circle/indent on the upper right corner of the unit trim for ?

Cass

that will be the alarm intermittant red flashy when you lock up..... ?

Is it a light sensor to change the brightness of the display and to change it over to "night time" theme colour scheme?

re: 26 degrees, I knew someone would pick up on that, I turned it right up as i just got in the car to take pics and it was freezing!

re: small circle spotted by cass, no idea, could be light sensor, but then again it could be an LED...

Lovely unit - just wish they would come down in price a bit. Re the firmware update when they fix the postcode issue - can you update the firmware via the SD card once the unit is installed or how else does the update work?

I believe you have to use a CD/DVD from VW to update firmware.

I believe you have to use a CD/DVD from VW to update firmware.

Thats right, beware however if you have 'misplaced' your maps DVD after saving the content to the hard drive as I believe flashing the firmware wipes the map content  :nerd:

Unit looks slick but I thought the RNS 510 has bluetooth built in? Hence you wouldn't need the Parrot kit as well?

No, bluetooth is not as standard on the RNS 510.  It is an option in Europe but not in the UK.  For retro install, you have to buy a separate box and install it under the seat.

Update to this answer, I updated my firmware from 0520 to 1020 and it did not wipe the maps or data on the drive.
