225/35 or 235/35?
« on: 19 February 2008, 10:20 »
Looking at getting a set of 19"x8" wheels, but unsure as to correct tyre size.  Should it be 235/35/19 or 225/35/19?
Any ideas?
Cheers.

225 35 19" to keep the rolling radius correct and to prevent having any problems if you lower your car!

2nd that.

The standard tyre diameter on a 225/40/18 is 637mm
Upgrade on a 235/35/19 Diameter is 647mm
Upgrade on a 225/35/19 Diameter is 640mm

You can use a 235 but its not ideal.

I've been advised that 235/35/19 are the correct tyres due to the loading of the tyre....
225/35/19 are usually 88Y and 235/35/19 are 91Y.
OEM / Standard tyres 225/40/18 are 92Y for the GTI not 225/40/18 88Y which some tyre fitters will try to sell you..

The difference in rolling diameter is less than 2%, so i wouldn't worry about it. It just makes the speedo a little less inaccurate.

What offset will the wheels be? That will also effect whether they are likely to rub or not.

Correct off set would be OEM.... ET51/ET54
I'm getting ET50.
Some with ET45 have rubbing issues.

With 235s on 50 offset, should look sweet
should not have clearance issues unless you go too low.
