VW 'slotted socket' tool?
«

Doing suspension next week and was reading the manual, as first time anywhere near the suspension. Says i will need a special VW tool 'slotted socket' to fit back on the upper retaining nut on the front. Stop the strut spinning while tightening the nut. Is this essential or can i manage without this? Maybe use something else? If not were would i get one of these tools from? Would appreciate any feedback... Like i sadi this is my first time on the suspension, will there be anything i may fid helpful from you guys before i start? Read uthrough a few threads and they are very helpful..
Cheers

I got a piece of steel tube, think it was 1/2 inch, but may have been 5/8, cant remember, then cut some away to leave 2 prongs, bent the pipe 90 degrees to get some leverage, and jobs a good'un, cost nothing and took 5 mins to make

is this the nut you tighten with the allen key??? if so then i used a big flat head screw driver to stop the shock from spinning, while i got someone else to tighten it

I recoment splashing out of the tool, it all adds to your tool kit! but if you dont want to wait for delevery a DIY one like filthy says will do the job fine!
