Help! : Getting cable through bulkhead?
« on: 11 February 2008, 22:38 »
Help someone please...

Fitting my DEFI boost guage , I have fitted the boost line and the sensor in the engine bay. (sensor by the washer filler neck LHS of engine from front)
and the gauge inside the car but Im well and truly stumped as to where I run the cable through from the sensor to the guage.

Remember its a DEFI guage so its wires not a boost line that runs through.
Best (and only) possibility I can see so far is using the grommet that the bonnet release goes through.

What does everyone else use?
Im being really cautious as its very tight in the engine bay and I dont want to start any leaks !

All help appreciated.

Wil have another look tommorrow , cheers Steve
12V was easy as there are 2 free fuse blocks that are switched lives in the fuse box.

So near and yet so far ......

I fitted a sensor for my road pilot a while back.  The sensor sits behind my grill and links to the road pilot which sits in my ashtray.

If you search, there should be a couple of threads.

Mine involved me popping out a grommit, pushing the wire through, and then removing my glove box to be able to find it again!  Its all detailed in that thread, but it was about 6 months ago!

I threaded my laser unit cable through the grommet that sits behind the battery area. I did not need to take anything out except that thin foam sheet which sits underneath the glove box. All I did was poke a metal coat hanger wire from the inside and it came out near the side of the battery. Tape the cable to the coat hanger and pull it through very slowly.

job done

As per the comments here , theres a useful grommet when you remove the foam from under the glovebox.
Coat hanger pushed through allowing me to thread the boost gauge cable.
Had to move the sensor to battery side though.

SteveS I did take a few poor phone pics for you , its really easy, Im so glad i asked here first!

Currently wired into switched live only and permanently dimmed mode as if the lights are on.
Not had a test drive yet, but pulled 22 mmHg at idle lol
