Issues with 1 of my wheels.
« on: 11 February 2008, 16:05 »
Friend thought it was cool to put some alloy wheel cleaner on ONE of my front wheels (it was a girl) and now its basically welded all the brake dust to the wheel in patches, today (good 2 weeks later) i go to clean the car and notice this. SO i start with a sponge, no luck, then a scourer sponge, no luck, then a full on wire brush, and it wont move. Is it f**ked???
cheers

Naah, use more alloy wheel cleaner on it, leave it for a minute then scrub and rinse should be fine,

yeah give it another clean...unless its wonder wheels as that eats anything it seems to come in contact with (including its own bottle!!).... if its burnt the lacquer its time to rub down and repaint and time to kick her tits in!!

from the fact that your nut covers are white i'd say that you'd been using wonder wheels already???

move over to something like meguairs hot rims which does the job of lifting dirt without wrecking your wheels... and no wire brushes!

you can get hot rims in halfrauds too

i tried the meguires, and like alot of their range i thought it was over rated and over priced, for wheels their really is only 1 and thats wonder wheels, use it correctly and it does the right job

the rim will clean up fine i would think, as said before give it another clean

wonder wheels is very acidic and damages lacquer - it will eat into any damage in the lacquer that there is  - i learnt the hard way from constant use of the stuff

it IS stronger and cheaper but I would avoid continued use....  hot rims you can use all the time

both should be able to shift that lot anyway

thing is tho....should only ever have to do them once a year at most if you wash your wheels once a week.... so for me at least wonder wheels is the only thing id ever use, lasts years does 1 bottle..

and the not as strong stuff is a waste of time for badly soiled wheels, you would be their forever trying to clean your rims hahaha

wonder wheels does say on it, dont use on cracked lacquer...as u say it is acid based, good stuff

ah haa... but people use it weekly (like i once did) because it imparts such a strong clean... and then after a year their alloys are fcuked!   i found the megs was more kinder to use on a regular basis

to give megs it's due it ain't too shabby...
