vw golf gti is killing me!!

arrrggghhhh! my head feels like its gonna explode! ok heres the story, i love gti's always hav done esp wen i was a kid and my brother had a mk2 gti, remember him drving around it and booting it.  now 5 years laters about 2 turn 21 ive decided 2 want 1 more than anything, ive had my heart set on a mk2 gti but the old man agures that i souldnt get 1 as they r 15years old and if anything goes wrong its gonna cost a foutune 2 repair and sh!t.
I then decided that i would get a mk3 gti but then theres insurance costs as well as the cost of buying a mk3 as im only an apprence plumber. Plz help i dont know wot 2 do!! i was thinking about getting a mk3 1.6 then doing it up like a gti, how much would it cost 2 buy a mk3 1.6 in good contdion? but then again it jst wont be a gti  :'( and the thought of drving a "wolf in sheeps clohthing kills me"
im starting 2 think that i shd wait a few years till i finish my apprenticeship and ive got the money then get a mk4 gti, so wot do u reckon? shd i get a mk3 1.6 as the car would b a lot cheaper than a mk3 gti?? i suppose i could always do it up a bit, wheels, airfilter and stuff so it'd b a poor mans gti but at least id hav a vw!

oh btw anybody know where i can get my own custom made stickers from? i was thinking if i go ahead wiv this mk3 of getting a transpant sticker wiv the writing "born in germany, free'd in England" 2 go on the back window

i used to play with a mk2 golf GTi car when i was a kid. Turned out to be the same colour mk2 gti i used to play with but now only the real thing

A MKII would be a cheaper option, i think! You should tell them "its my car not yours" and get what you want. As an aside, it doesn't have to be a GTI to be good, i have a 1.3, and its great!! GTIs are just a "bit" better! If you like the MKIII though..... I think they're quite ugly, but am led to believe by a few people on here that they are safer, and more luxurious? Why dont you try both?

some of those anti-old car arguments are a bit dodgy.

new cars cheaper to repair? hmm.. what if ur ecu goes mate.. want a new airbag? ouch...

an old car -could- be more prone to things breaking.. but it depends on whether its been looked after, and whether those things have been replaced before.

like the dude above me said, try a few diff variants out for yourself, see what you fancy.

decide what features you want, and what you can get on your budget, and see what options drops into place.


for custom made stickers look up signwriters in your local area, they will have a laser cutter for vinyl and be able to make you whatever stickers you want.

get a good mk2 while there are still some left,parts are cheap and plentifull you will get little bother from a well maitained one,her indoors`s 8v has done 185k and drives superb just flew through mot last week

if your dad is anything like mine it wont stop after you get the car he wants you to get, my dad is still moaning at my decisions and im 26.  

i just hate it when it all goes t*its up and they turn round and say 'told u so'

i reckon buy a GTI, learn from your mistakes and enjoy yourself while your young enough too

vixter thats jst wot i was thinking! i was jst saying 2 myself early on.. "ok im 21 and want the mk2 gti, im young and have no commitiments so f**k it i'll worry bout it after ive brought 1!"
ive got a plan, gonna hire a garage off the council, get a mk2 gti, wivout the folks knowing, work on it then clean it and polish it till u can eat off it then drive it home and say told ya! that way they wont be able 2 do sod all! will they?!
