k-jet 8v fuel pump not priming - but there is a twist!

My car won't start! I've never had any problems with it starting before and it was fine yesterday, but when i tried to start it last night it wouldn't. The car turns over and there is a spark on every cylinder. However, the fuel pump doesn't prime when the ignition is turned on.  :sad:

Here is what happens:

Turn ignition on, no fuel pump prime
turn engine over and fuel pump primes but car won't start
give up and fuel pump primes for 2 seconds
turn engine over again and the cycle repeats
when i stop turning the engine over the fuel pump relay clicks
when the ignition is turned on the relay beneath the fuel pump relay clicks

Any help will be mucho appreciated! I've done a search but everyone seems to get all or nothing, not a prime after the engine has turned over!

Well, the plugs on cylinders 3 and 4 were quite wet with petrol so i unplugged the pump relay and just kept turning the engine over to burn off any fuel in the cylinders and it fired up for a few seconds. I then plugged the relay back in and it turned over a couple of time then started.

The fuel pump still doesn't prime before starting though, should it!?

It also seems to have solved the idle issue  :huh:

you cant hear the fuel pump prime on mine either, but if it didnt you wouldnt have any fuel pressure i dont think

My 16v K-Jet always primes before ignition.

Is it too obvious to suggest getting a new fuel relay??

Probably not to be honest, it just threw me a little how the relay does click and the pump does prime, but only after you try to start the engine rather than before!

Just to throw something else into the pot... it could be an ignition barrel/switch prob??
