VAG shark fin aerial
« on: 09 February 2008, 01:33 »
Hi there,

I have a post in the mk5 section, but so far no joy.

I have a my08 golf gti with the whip aerial, I need to replace the base but wondered if I could put the sharks fin on for looks. Does anyone know how the VAG oem sharks fin works with AM????

Stealer feedback is varied, from, " won't fit, the hole in the roof is different" to " the gps antenna gets all radio signals from satellites, therefore you can't pick them up without a satnav head unit".

Has anyone retrofitted the aerial, and does it work with AM? Obviously due to build date I don't have the diversity aerial in the rear screen, and the loss of radio 5 would be to much!!

I don't know about VAG, but I work for BMW, and the technologies are very similar (and usually the same).  From my experience, the sharksfin will house the GPS and the main GSM aerials, so will be no good at all for either AM or FM radio reception.

Hope that helps.

I think you need the Sharks Fin with the twirly antena, this should give you GPS, GSM and Radio.
