I feel like a BMW driver (No Indicators!)
« on: 08 February 2008, 08:11 »
OK, So as I got home last night, last turning (luckily) my indicators decied to stop working - so I pulled up, tried left and right and hazzards - nothing doing (The hazzard switch lit up, but didn't flash). But when I set the alarm they did all flash. Then this morning they were all working fine?

I took this to mean my indicator stalk is probably on the way out, and I should get a new one ordered, but thought I'd get some second opinions from people in the know before I go spending money! Also, assuming it is the stalk, is that something relativy easy to change for some one not very mechanically minded?!

The same things has happened to me only its just the right one that doesnt work, in your case it is prob the relay (191) or the fuse (no.17) but with me i have no idea cos both the relay and the fuse does both sides

See I wondered about the relays too - maybe I'll try that first as I'm guess thing they're the cheaper, easier fix - Althoguh I'm gunna hate driving around with no indicators if it's not that! I Thought about the fuse, but if that had gone they wouldn't have started working again would they? Unless it's just loose or something maybe? Maybe I should just replace all 3 to be safe - I'm sure it cost be that much!

What's the best place to get this stuff from? You think scrappys or am I better off going to GSF or somewhere?

As for yours Matt, I think yours must be the stalk? The relay and the fuse must still be intact to make 1 side work - so the fault must be before them on the circuit - only place I can think of is the stalk - although I'm far from expert to be honest!

lol, yea same here. you can check the fuse just by pulling it out and having a look at it (it's no. 17) just check to see if the strand of metal running accross the middle is still intact  do that 1st and then go get a new realy from a scrappy would be best bet (just shove it in your pocket lol) its a 191 and its top right on the 1st 2 lines of relays just above the fuses... If its still fudged then look in to the stalk.

As for mine i have no idea, at 1st it started spacking out but then was ok again, then it was going super fast and i discovered the front right hand bulb wasn't sitting in right (sorted that then it was fine again) then a few days later it stopped working all together

P.s i have heard you have to remove the steering wheel to change the stalk

How did you get on Tom?

Also, with me it cant be the stalk as when the engine is off, keys are removed etc, flicking the stalk left puts the left parking lights on and flicking it right puts the right parking lights on...

You should try that also tom before changing it (if it comes to that) does anyone know why else just one signal would stop working...? It cant be the stalk, it's not the fuse and surely cant be the relay as the left side still works... :undecided:
