Who says a car has to be the fastest to be the best???

The difference between most of these cars is not really that big anyway... all it takes is red light and your all back to square 1 again

Guys. Guys.

Chill a little.... Else Hurdy is going to have to lock this thread.

There is no pride in saying I kicked your @ss in an arguement here.

Its the internet for heavens sake!

Well spoken from a young man with maturity beyond his years

Anyone who wants to prove their cars, be it 0-60, standing 1/4, rolling 1/2 mile etc should:-

a) keep it off public roads.
b) take it to the track and prove it.

I have no misconceptions about my car, every performance quote I give is backed up from printouts of actual track events or Rolling roads.

An ED30 is a top quality hot hatch which has good modding potential, but here is the crux of the issue - an EVO in any kind of modded state is a different beast for a different type of market and is something I personally would never subscribe to. A modded S3 or a Modded R32 would be more up my street, but even these have a slightly different appeal to a GTI/ED30.
Rally based ricers are bred from just that, Rallying technology and as such are point to point weapons, but what they gain in performance they lose out on in quality and mass market appeal and image.

Thats not at all what the debate is about, you need to read the thread.  Different cars for different things and I have said from post one that the Golf offers a a more rounded package than an EVO FQ and thats why I am buying one. A Lotus r or s and a EVO FQ340 MR would be difficult to live with I think you would agree.
Then people start harping on about the ED30 performance and how they have beaten EVOS etc,  which is as far from being 'honest' as you could get. Maybe people are just trying to wind me up who knows

Anyway Dealer has found me a Silver and a Red ED30 fairly standard spec, wheels are ok but I prefer the GTi ones but I can live with them. Would really like a black one, a sh!t to clean but I think it shows the red piping round the grill better than the others.....The good thing is I am going to walk out the dealer with a big fat cheque!!!!

I did read the thread from start to finish. It was just my opinion that a car doesnt have to be the fastest to be the best, thats all. I can understand where your coming from about people giving Evos some. I dont really buy into that tbh. I have lost count the number of times a saxo has tried it with me... It doesnt mean Im going to floor it everytime.

Half the fun is keeping the car close behind you... makes it a bit of a challenge. Meanwhile there are 2 divs in a Saxo gloating about how they kept up with/beat a R32. but we all know what the reality is :smug:

No idea where your getting your 0-60 times but they seem to be 1sec quicker than any reviews or official times i have seen. And the car certainly doesnt feel that quick.
If you have ever owned a 4wd sports car like an Evo or STi you would know that launching off the mark is stunning. Quotes like my friend has run many tests using his FQ260 and FQ300 are utter crap, if he had you wouldnt be making this shocking statements an fq300 will do 60mph in 4.5 secs!!!! IT WILL WALK AWAY WITH SHOCKING EASE and make you look very stupid indeed if you ever try it on with one in an ED30
This forum is amusing I think i shall stay clear as i dont want to be part of the ed30 the fastest car on earth brigade.
Accept the ED30 for what it is, a good all rounder, a good package, a well built hot hatchback.

Next somebody will tell me that the ED30 would give my FQ340 MR a run for its money......shocking stuff to read....power to weight ratios, please dont start talking about things you clearly have no idea about, without working it out I would still estimate the bhp per ton to be higher in a evo260 as yes it will be heavier but not much....next will be the 4wd transmission loss statement.

Utter what exactly, you really are making me laugh!!!!

Fact the 260 power to rate is around 177 compared to 172 std to std of course, so I would hardly call that walking away?????

Once up and running above 60 don't make me laugh, fq300 vs ed30 with same power would not walk away????

maybe off the line but hey that's not my point, walking away was your comment and this is what I'm questioning, and by the way no need to be rude, I'm only stating my opinion with hard fact and figures from friends who have some very very nice cars,.........sorry you feel the need to use words like sh!t and cr*p!

I lied

Big Babies and my rage, your making me laugh now  I am not the one with making the comments hyping up an ED30 into basically into something it isn't.
I am sorry if peoples remarks regarding performance of the ED30 wind me up and apologise.  I am a car enthusiast, no loyalty to any brand and I accept a car for what it is.  I didn't start the debate on EVO v ED30 anyway, it was someone bragging that they keep up with them....
One of the most amusing threads I have read for a while is the 'What car have you beat in your ED30' that thread is a real hoot, if people want to believe the Ed30 is the best car in the world go ahead keep dreaming, it may well be in your eye's but don't hype it up into something it isn't as it actually does no good at all and makes people look very isolated when it comes to their car knowledge.
Lots of decent posts from members though and i appreciate them....
I have a dealer as I am writing this looking at what spec/colour ed30 model he can get his hands on, we will go from there...

I am not hyping anything, don't be silly. I am fully aware of the differences between a road going rally car and a family hatch.
Not so long ago an Evo took me with ease, and that was from 100kmh (though I was in 6th).
There is no competition between E30 and Evo, it is Sandra Bol-locks, I'd be sniffing his exhaust everytime.
Do I care? Well, only to the extent that my next ride will be 4x4 or at least BWD.

How many times do people need telling you cannot compare Modified cars to standard cars its pointless!!!!!!! The gains made by the EVO260 from a standing start would put enough distance between the two cars, it would then maintain a healthy lead and would continue to gain slowly, the standard ed30 wouldnt make ground IMO thats enough to justify my 'walk away' statement. I didnt say it would bury the ED30 although on a track it would, but thats obvious. Above 60mph yes an ed30 would put up a better fight but IMO it still would lose ground.
I am a very active member of the UK Evo and Subaru enthusiast clubs and attend track days maybe 3 times a year for the last 14-15years. Believe me I have seen Focus RS's and many other fwd cars running 260-280bhp easily beaten by Evo 260's and i mean with ease!!!!
I dont know why people are getting so defensive.  I have not said once that the EVO is a better car and I haven't criticised the ED30 once, i have nothing but praise for the car....
The whole thread is sounding like a broken record now and it boring me.  Guys love the ed30 but for those who think the ed30 is a rival for an EVO get yourself to a track day or dealer and drive an EVO you will see that in the terms of getting from a to b the quickest it is king!!!!It may shatter your spine on the way though

Having problems getting a black one, anyone know any dealers who have one as i am willing to travel....
