Looking to buy a stealthbox
« on: 30 March 2004, 00:24 »
Anyone know where I can buy a JL Audio steathbox for my MkIII for under $550?

It's too f#ckn sweet to give up on, but its more than one third the price I originally paid for my ride.

if you're handy with fibreglass make  your own. that is if I'm thinking it's those boxes that fit behind the wheel arch so don't take up your boot?

The JL audio ones are a different beast than the auto acoustics ones.

Paladin, I doubt you will find any 2nd hand or discounted as it's a but of a speacialist item.

Any news on this? Looking for a decent quality, compact one for my Mk3 Cabriolet...

Was looking at the Alpine SWD-2000 (8" + amp), that's removable, but won't fit above the arch...

build your own then. Simple enough to do. MDF and Filler :)
Make as much of the box as  you can with MDF and then fill in the corners that aren't sealed with filler. Make sure you cover the inside of the boot where you're making it first though else it'll be ruined with filler everywhere. There's a couple of articles online to do this.

advantages are you can build it as big as you want and curve it round other things. Shouldn't cost more than ?30 either.

Yea baby!

Just bought an empty stealthbox on e-bay for $10.50. ($30 to the door!)

It's the first generation Vantage model made specifically for the Mk3.  It's hard plastic (instead of the new fiberglass), and not carpeted (I''ll probably do that myself), so I'm not sure on what the final result will sound like, but I'll be happy to free up the trunk space.

It'll probably be another $500 for a new 10" W6v2 and a Jl amp to run it and the fronts..

And just as I was starting to enjoy my set up.. maybe I'll wait for other mods first...hmm
