Overrun issue?
« on: 01 February 2008, 12:38 »
Hi everyone,
Just bought the wife a 2.0 GTI and it seems to be a really great car, she loves it!!
However on the overrun it seems to 'miss-fire' feels juddery doesn't cut out though and is fine when on the throttle, this may have been covered in the past but is this a fault and if so what could it be, i'm going to put injector cleaner in at the weekend and look for anything obvious under the bonnet.
Any ideas??

Hm this is quite a normal thing!  My XR3i used to do it badly!  Some cars do this and some dont but you will find if its bad, it can be caused by a few things.

1) Dirty or blocked injector
2) TPS not recording correct position
3) Engine temperature sensor not recording properly
4) Worn engine mounts - Makes natural overrun judder worse.

Ultimatly its down to the conditions inside the engine, such as back pressure, temperature and other such things, when thats the case its more the design of the engines but the golfs arnt to bad so i would say somthing is up,  Some one else will be able to be more specific im sure.

Thanks for that, i've just put some injector cleaner through it and the wife says it seems a bit better!! may put some more through as probably not done by previous owner and its done 85000miles.
will see how it goes for a couple of weeks before doing anything else.

Run it on Shell V-power for a few hundred miles.  That has cleaners in it which will do the same job, it constantly cleans it over time rathter than a shot of cleaner.  Or both! cant go wrong then

Okay i will have a go at that aswell, however since last report car has actually stalled a couple of time when coming to a standstill in heavy traffic!! not nice for the wife! starting starting to err towards engine temprature thingy, is this something i can test and replace or does it need a specialist garage or will the local spanner man be able to help?
Thanks again for the help.
