Aftermarket Headunits
« on: 30 January 2008, 20:25 »
Hi,

Just a wee question to those of you with aftermarket headunits.
Have any of you managed to retain the feature where by the headunit stays on when you switch the engine off but leave the key in the ignition?
From what i've gathered so far, even with a CAN-BUS adapter, it seems you have to take a switched ignition, usually from the lighter socket, but this immediately drops out when you turn the ignition off so if you want to sit in the car with the headunit on you have to have the ignition on which isn't ideal.

Any advice or info much appreciated

Cheers

Kenny

My Alpine SatNav/Audio unit stays on when I switch off the engine but I have to have my ignition on but not fired.

When i had the kenwood in the GTI, i had it set up so every time i pulled the key out of the iginition, the screen would stay on and then i would need to switch of the screen myself...i didnt like the idea of this as i found myself getting in and out of the car and not switching off the screen...So i had it changed to where the screen one would go only if the key was in the ignition...once it was out, the screen would just go off along with everything else

Alright...i dont think it would be much as it took the guy about 10 minutes to do the wiring....he did it whilst i was waiting and it didnt take him that long
