accelerating noise turbo??
« on: 28 March 2004, 20:55 »
Hiya fella's,
ive noticed a noise during accelration, its been on the car since i bought it 4 months ago but i think it's getting worse(or maybe its just me imagining things)
Its louder in first gear,  il accelerate, an as soon as i relaese the pedal i can here like a spinning sound from the engine bay, but it sounds more rattly then a smooth sound of a turbo re-spoilin(if thats a word)
it continues to sound when i release the pedal in second and third.
its a 99 1.8 t

i appreciate the old mechanics responce "cant say untill ive seen it" but just wondered if there was any ideas or anyone heard the noise b4!

cheers guys! ???

Its all better now very shiny, but now the windows have gone again! and shocks are squeaking like mice!!aarrgghhh

You still running the stock diverter valve ? Those plastic bosch things aren't fantastic, get a nice alloy one for about 75 notes  ;D

yeah sounds like your divertor valve is deffo on way out, these can cause boosty probs for some reason when they fail so get one like what topher suggested matey!!

its not a major job, i havent got a turbo golf so i cant tell you exactly, but they are the same as a dump valve and it is located between your plenum chamber and your inter cooler i think (someone will correct me if im wrong) these just release excess turbo pressure when you back off the throttle and divert the pressure back in to the airbox i think?, they help your turbo spin up quicker and dont strain the fins on the compressor turbine with back pressure int he system, have a word with topher or some one else whos fitted one, i think there a diy job but get it done cause if faulty you can loose boost pressure as it can leak back into the air box so youll not get full whack!!

yeah defo get a dv i lost all boost when mine went and died on me. a got the one in your link a bailydv30 very good stuff or if you perfer get a forge 007 both are top quality. it takes about 10 min's to fit. if you take off your plastic engine cover and look top right of the engine you will see a black plastic valve type thing and it just a case of taking the 3 pipes of and puting in the new dv getting the metal vw clips are the hardest part. nice easy start to your gtiT mod's. oh and there about ?90/?100.

seems like I've got the same problem ... turned my stereo down on Sunday to hear this rattly sound after I took my foot off the accelerator pedal.  Initially thought it must have been a lose cable but reading the first link it does sound like the Diverter Valve.

Do I need to get the VW clips or can I use something else?
The link is for a US site - does anyone know of any good places to get the DV from in the UK?

Cheers

Buy jubilee clips for the bigger hoses (should be available from the stealer). If you are lucky you may be able to pull the vacuum pipe off the old valve without disturbing the clip and then reuse it on the new valve.

if you dont want to hear the psshhhhh niose after every gear change like that of a rs turbo or subaru, make sure you get a reciurcilating dv. your car is set up to run that sort so it will run smoother as well. baily dv30 or forge 007 are best.
