ermm so what have i blown up? :(
« on: 28 March 2004, 17:56 »
took the car out for a lil spin to get some petrol etc..

was on a country b-road doing about 60 in 3rd.. and it cut all power on me totally, dropped to second got a lil more go outta it then more of the same.. and ground to a halt ended up stranded at the side of the road.

the temp guage on the dash wasnt showing anything OTT.
when i got out and popped the bonnet there was a burning smell coming from the engine and a few puffs of smoke rising from the back and there was a some smoke coming from the exhaust, it wasn't dirty smoke. was low on oil.. it was on minimum.

so got towed home.

the car sounds like its almost about to turn over now.. but doesn't start

have topped up the oil...

anyone got any idea of what i've done.. and the cost? (eek)

woe :(

also... car had been idling very lumpy in the morning (didnt drive far then though only moved it few feet.)

later when driving noticed that where i usually can use 5th when doing 30 ish... it was so juddery had to change out again (bout 20 mins before i conked out). have a feeling it was a bit tempermental before i conked too..

am praying its a fuel related thing.. i had 1/4 tank, but could be pump or something.. we're gonna check all that tomorrow night.

and they don't have a lot on right now.. after checking it over more tonight will book it in :(

have used them a lot of times for alarm stuff, and a girl at works had the head gasket on her golf cab done there.

Get compression checked and coolant system check for exhaust gasses.
If both are fine then headgasket has not gone.
Could be an ignition problem?

am going to check the fuses properly and check its getting fuel tonight.

will see if we can check compression too, but can't remember if we've got a tester handy.

if not will leave that to the people i'm gonna take it to.

(and have to make sure my bikes roadworthy  :D)

does seem potentially electrical.. argg

better than having blown something up.. have been fearing the worst..

didn't hear anything though apart from a smooth loss of power...

will do..  wouldn't be surprised if more things are damp or whatever after last weeks saga with that solenoid connection :)

btw if it helps, it wouldn't bump start when towed either
