Should i get a mk2?
« on: 18 January 2008, 13:01 »
Hi all...probably gonna get some biased answers in here lol

I bought my first golf 6 months ago and at the time was undecided to get a mk2 or mk3 and ended
up buying a 16v 1996 p reg mk3. BUT the more i look at the mk2's the more i want one!

Have any of you guys drove both and would you recommend going for the mk2?
I CANT DECIDE!!!  :undecided:

For starters the MK2 looks a hell of a lot better than a MK3, by miles. It also drives A LOT nicer standard and it's great fun to drive. It's a much cooler car imo. Find yourself a nice example and you won't be disappointed.

I know MK2's can be a pain in the arse when they go wrong but once sorted you don't know why you even doubted it. Fantastic cars.

If you want a more spirited drive then yes get one.
If you can't live without the luxuries of the mk3 then don't (more noisy, less comfortable).

If you want my opinion then what are you waiting for, get one as soon as possible ;)

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

I owned a Mk3 GTI for a couple of year and now have a mk2 16v. I think the mk2 is a much sportier drive and it looks so much more iconic than a mk3.

I bought a late mk2 which has power steering and most of the stuff my mk3 had. As the mk2 is an older car just be prepared to look after it, if you can handle the odd problem then what are you waiting for go and get one!

I love my mk2 and im glad I switched.
