R32 Turbo
« on: 17 January 2008, 14:48 »
I thought I'd let this topic loose as there have been a few postings on other threads, but not a specific one for R32 turbo conversions.

Right then, Where can you get them from and how much do they cost?

I'll start the ball rolling.

Bought the Volkswagen Driver magazine today and there is a feature on an R32 with a low pressure single turbo conversion. 400bhp and 368lbft. It had been carried out by QST/MTM  http://www.qstuning.com/about.jsp?

Good article, but no performance figures.

sounds promising...

my bet will be 6 grand finished, then brakes upgrades so say another 1600... 5 secs to 60 and bad mpg.....proper q car though, and if kim at qst does it, you know it'll be right.

With 150bhp more and 130lbft more, I would have said it would be a sub 4.5 second sprint to 60mph :undecided:

why is the r32 so slow?? with a 3.2 V6 youd have thought it would be caperble of higher numbers concidering porsche usually use a 3.6 (400cc more) and yet you get so much more power, and it weighs less than a porsche??!! whats goin on??!!  :undecided:

It all boils down to marketing and development costs and product placement

A VW that was as fast as a Porsche and cheaper than a Porsche with 4WD would take sales away from them and as Porsche own nearly 30% of VW then you begin to see the logic. :nerd:

Again it boils down to product development. The VW golf has had a V6 at the top of the range since the MKIII and so the natural development follows on in successive versions. I think personally that the MKVI will toll the death knell for the V6 in the Golf due to other pressures like Euro emissions laws and TAX liabilities. Plus the market for the V6 version will shrink as people become more aware of the environmental issues and turn to cars which are just as fast, but have smaller cubic capacities and alternative methods of power (hybrid, fuel cell, diesel etc) :nerd:

It seems to me that they just cant get more power out of the V6. otherwise i am sure we would have seen a quicker A3 3.2. I am also quite sure everyone is becoming speed obsessive on here!!
