I'll give you a tip, take the dash out! it makes the job much easier, no lying upside down in the footwell is required then, and also take off the ENTIRE airbox assembly including the blower fan unit, dont f**k about trying to split the 2, it makes for a lot more hassle. To get the blower off isd only an extra couple of nuts in the bay area, plus some fixings up near the fan. Oh and done mess about removing the staples from the blower ducting, and dont unclip any of the heater knob controls, just unscrew the control knob unit from the dash and pull it out along with the heater box!
Also while the dash is out you can check the screen demist ducting for damage, on my mates MK2 it had all come away from the dash resulting in poor demister performance. A bit of glue and some clamps and its much better!
To get the dash out you gotta remove all the switches, the heater controls and the dash surround, plus 2 nuts in the scuttle area, a bolt at either end and 2 more under the dash near the centre console. All the undertrays and console have to come out too.
