At crossroads regarding price/performance

hey, i rekon go SMALL, its not like me to say this but i would not spend and extra 2000euro on 25bhp, even when you will not feel much difference, id go with softwere remap and carbonio and build up from that, i.e d.v valve and miltek 

good suggestion. That's what another forumite Wolfbane (the guy with CANDY WHITE E30 with 340hp) told me to do. I think that is what I will do, but instead of spending another 350euro on carbonio I put K&N sport airfilter in original airbox. Don't think the difference to carbonio is worth 350euro.

There is more to an uprated air filter, intercooler and exhaust than just another 25bhp for 2,500 Euros.

There would not be a huge amount between a 300bhp car and a 330bhp car performance wise, but the 300bhp will not breath as well, sound as good or reduce inlet temperatures enough to stop higher levels of heat soak (power loss). The 330bhp would be faster though if you were that worried about it.

My advice would be to see if you can get a demo remap. Do you have any other tuning companies out there apart from Oettinger?

If you can't get a demo remap then I'd go with the "basic" remap to start with. If the car feels fast enough with just the remap - you're sorted

I've found from experience that the figures you get quoted with the tuning companies regarding accelleration times and in-gear times are relatively high, compared to actual track and 1/4 mile times.

As you've probably seen on previous threads you can get under 5.7 seconds 0-60mph (96.8kph) and I have managed under 5.4 seconds 0-60 with a standing start from the side of the road in damp conditions after my remap at 285bhp .

yes, I had an offer from Sportec (275hp/380Nm), and there is ABT, and MTM, and Digitec, and others (no REVO though, and B&B is 540 km from me) ... but my mind is set on Oettinger as they have 50 years experience with VW.

No, I am not worried about performance so much as about engine longevity (lower temps).

If I had the money, I'd get mark IV R32 and do turbo conversion (or, more likely, I'd wait for TTS and do another remap) 

I think thats what i am planning next... but maybe with an earlier R32 MkV. Only problem is that I am a sucker for new car smell!!

Well I have ordered the Turbo back resonated Milltek which should take the car to 260/265 bhp! I think that is more than enough power to put thru the front wheels! I drove my mates Cupra Type R today running 265bhp with a REVO remap and in the wet it just spun thru all the gears and was near impossible to get the power down! It has put me off a remap as I don't want to spoil the driveability of the Edition 30!

I usually drive like a grandma, seldom going above 4000 revs (first of all I drive in the city, secondly, E30's torque curve allows for low revs), and accelerating very smoothly. But sometimes I

Go for the big you know you want to. I was thinking about going down the oettinger route for my ED30 instead of APR, I have heard many good things about their upgrades for the ED30, I think I will have to go for the intercooler, exhaust etc. because if I just get a remap I will just want more

oettinger and APR are one and the same company, so the maps etc are more than likely the same thing
