Decided on my new Cam
« on: 14 January 2008, 01:15 »
Hi guys I'm looking to buy a resonable Cam for my '90 8v pb, golf. I've got an induction kit, recently overhauled engine which was balanced, 4-1 ss manifold, full ss scorpion exhaust, I also did some mild porting and polishing on the head. I now fancy a little more power.

I've seen a few but was interested in the Piper Ultimate Road Cam:

Powerband : 2500-6800rpm ; Power increase : 15bhp
Inlet duration : 276 deg ; Exhaust duration : 276 deg

Anyone have any coments or suggestions? I'm not to worried if the idle is a little off.

Thanks

Steve

i had one of these and sold it within a week.i lost all low down torque.yes it flew above 4k, but was unbearable around town. i then got a newman 268 off phillip walker on the club gti site. revs lovely all the way to nearly 7k, and noticeable but minimal low down loss. another is the kent gs2h cam, although more expensive than the newman

with the correct settinn up of the cam you can get a a hell of a lot of power out of it..obviously you'll need an adjustable pulley and with a little bit of playin around with the cam timing you'll be laughin. i advance the timing a notch, took it for a spin, then advanced a again, took it for a spin and then jst tweeked it until it was purrfec!

home tuning and road testin in my opinion is a lot more realistic then gettin it rolling roaded

Can anyone suggest a decent fast road cam? The piper Ultimate cam has had a bad review, any others?

thanks

Steve

i have run a kent 266 which felt a bit to similar to the standard one (for the cost of it) i then bought a piper 285 which is really good!the idle does suffer though! in my opinion the best compromise would be the kent gs2h or the cheaper newman alternative.

I've got the Kent gs2h. Really made a difference when it was setup properly. Really pleased I went for it.
