Rear Speakers MK2

Right so one of my 6x9s has decided to go crackly on me! so im going to get something nice for the rear of the car.

As i have herd people slate 6x9s in the boot im thinking along the lines of 6x9s on the parcel shelf (in enclosures) or just getting some 5" speakers and cutting my door cards If i cut the door cards, ill buy some sound proofing as there isnt anything behind there!

I was thinking of just having my sub in the boot + dash speakers and that is still and option but i think it would sound naff without any sound in the back.

Definatly need to replace the crappy 3.5" dash speakers as i still havent gotten around to that yet!

Doing some extra work over the next couple of weeks and theres a few other bits im going to buy for my car (check project thread) but want to get some new speakers with the money i'll have left over!

Any advice on what to put in the back + which stuff to go for?

If you have a sub dont put anyting in the shelf. The subs and the 6x9's in the same air space will battle. often causing damage to the 6x9s or just generally distorting the music.

A 17cm setup will be much louder and more accurate than 6x9's.

A lot of peope slate the idea of speakers in the back and front. I have 2 sets of comps with the rear tweets faceing backwards and imo they sound great. some people sugest coax for the rear instead of comps. If your confident in making pods in the back then go for it, sort some out for the front doors while your on, you wont be dissapointed. sound deadening is a must. Running them from an amp will give you massive gains. I have 2 sets of these in mine http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/audio-integrator-comp6-p-5280.html.
They are getting 100W each and imo were well worth the money.

I havent a clue about making pods tbh was just going to cut a hole and fix them in :embarassed:

Definatly going to change from 6x9s as my sub could be the reason one of them has decided to break

I was thinking of putting in door speakers but am not confident about putting wires into the doors (dont have pods there already)

I think theres an ICE place nearby that i could talk to about making pods so will enquire later this week

I'm going to put 7x5 speakers where the 6x4's go and just make some adapter mount/brackets

If you had some 6x4's in the shelf supports, some nice components up front and a sub in the boot I reckon you'd have a really nice system. Thats what I'm going for. If you amped the 6x4's and comps as well it would be even better.

  i think that i'd be able to get better 6x9s than i would 6x4's though as theyre more common.

I recon im going to get a decent wood parcel shelf and make a box under it so that the 6x9s and sub dont use the same air, then get some of the speaker grills for the front doors and put the tweeters under the dash grills.

Its gonna take time but i think that would be quite a nice setup

make sure u got heavy duty parcel shelf mate.....
i would still say go with 6x4s, i know rocford fosgate used to do them as ive got some...
sound is good in mine i like to think anyway

If you get 6x9's you'll need to cap them to cut off some of the lower frequencies with the 6x9's and the sub. You don't need the bass of the 6x9's with the sub there. I've had 6x4's in the back and they are fine at lower volumes, but don't sound as good when you turn the volume up as they have a lower max power etc. If you do get 6x4's get the ones that can handle the most power and handle lower frequencies, as they will wound better when the volume's turned up.
