Coolant Topup three times since 10th Oct

Since the 10th Oct when I bought my 2 year old GTI, the coolant light has come on three times (every 4 weeks or so) telling me to STOP!  Each time it has been well below the minimum line.  I have topped up and no more problems.  I had a ford focus for 5 years and never topped it up once.  Any ideas what the problem might be?

I'd get it booked in at the dealers and checked out. Touch wood, never had to do my ED30 at all and my Mkiv was never touched in 6 years!!!

my brother had this problem with his MK5 2.0 TDI. we were topping it up every 3-4 days though! took it to VW and they checked it over and never found a problem, I think it went in twice, never had anything repaired or replaced and since then its not done it again. Sorry I can't shed any more light on it! Odd

Had it on my old 55 plate gti, warning light came on so I topped it up took it into the stealers, they pressure tested it and found no problem and it never did it again in the following 12 months. Probably doesn't help you much though sorry pal.

I've got the same problem on my 05 GTI.  Coolant light came on, topped up, back on within a week or so.  Took it to the dealers and they said it's a problem with the hoses between the rad and the engine.  Where the hoses are close the the engine the heat warps the pipe and breaks the seal slightly.  (Something like that anyway!)  new hoses have been ordered and will be getting them fitted this friday.  I just hope the new hoses aren't subject to the same fault.

probably the thermo stat housing to the right off the engine (looking from the front) what engine you got in it, i got a thermostat housing for sale if its 2.0 tfsi.your well lucky that ur focus didnt leak any coolant ,i work for fords and they always leak lol

Get it to the dealers... I had the same issue as makzimum.
All sorted now, along with a fast idle problem that was caused by a vacuum leak... another split pipe... mind you I reckon theseproblems occured when they fit the new engine... car is spot on now and all done under warranty!  Phew!

B*asta*d coolant light on again.  Topping again and going round to dealers now!

Mine has been sorted now - at least I hope it is.  I asked the dealer if they were just replacing the faulty parts with the same (I was worried it would happen again) but they said the part has been re-engineered.  2 weeks since it was done now and all seems ok!  Although I do have to go back for another replacement bit - one of my wing mirror indicators seal is broken and it's full of mould - fortunately it's another warranty job!

I had this a year ago and it was a faulty radiator (found by pressure testing) which was replaced under warranty.
