An open letter:

Dear Volkswagen,

If your next version of Golf looks *anything* like this picture, then the car you're delivering to me next month will be the last Golf I buy for a while.

Love and kisses,

An Edition 30 orderer.
-----------------------

Seriously, part of me hopes it's a pig ugly bloatmobile (for high residuals) and part hopes that VW haven't cut off my plans of upgrading to the next model in good time.

So many ugly hatches around in the midsize sector. The golf gti was the only one I liked the look of, even before weighing up other factors. (The new Pug 308 is even uglier than the bland bubble it replaced).

I wonder how many people made negative comments about the mkV when i was first released???

i know i did :undecided:

Lets just wait till the official pictures are released.. and the reviews have been done. You can bet your bottom dollar that VW dare not mess this one up, the Golf mkV has been a phenominal product for them... they are simply everywhere regardless of their premium price over other cars in its class.

From what I have read in the motoring press and from a friend who works at dealer near me, the current "glass house" i.e the top section of the Golf including the window lines and shape of windscreen and postion is carried over in Mk6.  VW dealers are apprently not expecting Mk 6 until early 2009, with GTI end of that year or early 2010.

Sheet metal pressing /tooling at VW factories now has to cover two model generations, so it has to cover Mk5 and Mk6, so contary to belief I bet it will not look anything like that picture above because that would require different metal pressing. I think we can safely say it will not look to dis-similar to the Mk5.

It will not be a completley new car like the Mk5 was over the Mk4, more of a Mk5 1/2. The aim is to produce a more profitable car per unit, not replace the model completly.  So that would generally mean quality will be a step down as they will be making it at a price for the mk6, like Astra, Focus and 1 Series.

The chassis and most componets will be the same, including the engines (apart from new TDIs with common rails), it will just all be made abit cheaper...........but at the same VW list price!

....I think it was you, Snoopy, who in another forum pointed out that making a car production line more profitable doesn't necessarily compromise the end product's quality - It gains profitability by improving manufacturing efficiency.

Such a dull and boring design speculation! Mind you, the Mk5 GTI/Ed30 will be a hard act to follow!

Im actually liking that fiat stilo fold along its side (deleted by idiot computer stylist on above photos). From the window line up its the same car but then it will be  . I do find the 3door mk5 bland and this new line (as it did the fiat) helps it look less eurobox designed by commite look. The front well i wait and see. I remember all the speculation about the mk5 GTI look and the 'artist impressions' back then and all the mk4 boys complaining.

I think whatever happens Volkswagen know what there doing, I am sure the MkVI GTI/R32 will be just as appealing as the MkV models
