Hi All,

I'm about to import a Mk5 GTI but am hesitating due the the Mk6 coming out in a year or so. I'm still tempted to go ahead and import a Mk5 as I've heard the next genration will have 10% cheaper manufacturing costs. Lower quality springs to mind?

What would you do?

Any help would be appreciated...

go get a mk 5!

you wont be sorry

Reports suggest that the earliest the UK would get the Mk6 GTI would be late 2009/2010. It's always wise to allow a year for any teething problems a new model might have or for decent updates to it. Therefore you're looking at 2011 - 3 years from now.

There's always a new model on the horizon whenever you choose to buy.

If thats what the next Golf looks like, they are on a looser. For those worried about the MK5 GTi becoming obsolete, there is always the facelift Focus ST or the forthcoming 2009 Leon Cupra with the bespoke body kit

what we do know about this car is that it is being built to a price more than the Mk V.

I think im right in saying that most people would agree that the Mk V was a "step down" in quality of materials in parts of the cabin.
I have read that alot of the cost saviings is coming from making the suspension simpler to build and how the car will be put together on the production line.

Apparently VW make £1000 less per car due to the higher complexity over its key rivals (Astra and focus).  I just cant see it being radically different to the current mk V apart from the outer skin, a newer design of dashboard, more toys (better sat nav, DAB radio etc etc). Its very much like the last 3 series when it was facelifted in 2001/2002. It was pretty much the same car, but more refined looking, better dashboard, better equipment and some small changes under the skin. It wasnt a whole new car like the Current one is that when the 3 series was replaced in 2005..............
