Air box drilling
« on: 03 January 2008, 18:03 »
I currenty have a KnN panel filter in my 8v and just wondered peoples opinions on weather its worth drilling the airbox? i did it on my mk2 and it sounded like a beast, should i be expecting the same sort of sound? does it decrease fuel economy?

if you drill under the filter it cant suck no dirt up  :smiley:doesnt make really loud ,i took the extension piece out that goes to the inner wing instead off drilling holes ,didnt notice it much so i put a k&n on instead

im more than happy with my K&n 57i, i know alot of people on here prefere the standard airbox and panel filter route but i personally dont see the point in it at all in terms of performance upgrade, i know a induction kit will not give a gain in bhp if we are all gonna be honest, but it did make my car run a hell of a lot better and it sounds great, and will last forever too.

just make sure you feed cold air to them and u cant go wrong..

hmm might just have to try it and drill it out like the guide in the maintenence section.  :undecided: i just dont want it sucking in crap or water, at least if i dont like it getting a new air box wont be hard

come on len lets hear your reasons, where is it best to drill the holes? maybe wing side only?? how much louder does it sound to stock?

Well first rolling road I ever went to with my Golf there was 2 other Mk3's there and both had drilled boxes. They both made better power than mine. (K&N cone) (although it wasnt set up right at the time!)

So I cant really say what the noise was like, but from a power point of view its definitely worth doing!
Yes I would do the wing side only. If you do the engine side you only draw in hot air.
