Maybe, but that won't make it any easy for a lot of people to swallow!!!  

Take it from me, people don't like the idea of a diseasel being quicker than them - a lot of people see the diesel as one evolutionary step up from the handcart!

i'm not bothered about whether the 'diseasel' as you put it is faster, but just whether its got a GTI badge or not. TDi's are quick (esp. off the mark), theres no disputing that. there is a stigma attached to diesel cars.

My PD (and I think all 150's) are badged as GTi's.

The 130 and below are badged as TDI's

I'm sure a magazine tested the mk2 16v as about 7 secs 0-60, will have to do a search.
I doubt the 150pd is the fastest gti badged golf, its certainly one of the fastest.

Magazine or not ... the owners manual states 8.5secs... 0.2secs quicker than the mk3 16v.
