Temp Gauge

The temp gauge on my car is usually on 90 when the engine is warm, but the last couple of days it will warm up to 90 and then when i start to drive it will start dipping and go right to the bottom. If i leave the car started without driving it will go back up.

Anyone had similar problems or got any idea what it could be? Really hope its not a big job its the last thing i need with xmas just around the corner :sad:

its your coolant temp sensor.  V easy and cheap!

yea mine done it, makes the car run ruff,   cost about£20 for a new part takes 5 min to fit. just remember to let your car cool down first or u may be visiting a&e

you can get an OEM from vag parts, GSF might do it too

Thanks mate just checked it out 14.95 for the 4 pin, i think thats the right one ill get my uncle to check it out now if it is im gonna get it ordered

Well guys just been down to my uncles garage and he got the mechanic to have a look at the prob. The guy said my a/c is on and that will be the cause of the problem, i said i havent even got an a/c button and its so damn cold so why would i have it on. Anyway my uncle pressed the 'Econ' button whilst the mechanic was looking at the a/c pump under the bonnet and when he switched it on the a/c pump went off. So he said try that for a while and it should be ok. Ive drove it around and it seems fine.

Firstly i dint even know i had a/c and secondly what the hell is all that about!!!!^^^

All GTi's have A/C or Climate Control . . .

the early ones didn't (as standard) i think it was standard after 2001

the A/C doesn't explain the coolant temp though, i know the A/C uses that temp sensor but it should be one way and having the A/C on shouldn't cause the temp reading on the dash to be wrong
