Rear wiper problem
« on: 25 November 2007, 14:05 »
MK 2 GTI 8V. My rear wiper never returns to where it should do any more. Could this be a relay or the motor worn?

I get what your saying mate and i've no idea if its because it old?!

If you let it wipe for long enough it will return to the correct position.  Or you can time it right so it will stop at the bottom, or top depending on which you prefer.
I usually press the switch when its on its way up, it pretty much sweeps up then back to the horizontal and out of the way of your rear view mirror!!!
<br />Almost finished.....

ok ive just done the lay flat mod, which is essentially just tightning a bolt back up when the arm is in a position you are happy with, i suggest you try it it IS easy .......

thanks joe

it's a little more involved than that as you have to rotate the little arm 180 degrees otherwise it will sweep down the paint on the boot not the rear screen

Parking position can play up when the wires from the tailgate to the body are broken! with the tailgate open, top left hand side, pull back the sheathing, and inspect the wires for breaks

eh? unclip the plastic panel, unscrew the bolt (far left) lay wiper flat, align up the part you just unscrewed, (obviously you have to rotate it or it wont lign up) tighten with spanner, clip on plastic panel. it took me 5 minutes mate, if that
