problem when accelerating

These problems have only just started to happen, i redlined the car this morning, was on a open stretch and was at 90 temp... after a bit of normal driving the car started to hesitate, kinda jerking. got to work parked up for the day, drove home and it was completly normal, although i didnt redline it, didnt wanna tempt fate!!!!... I checked with vag com and no faults come up.. is this the maf?? or coil pack???
Ps... its a 1.8t aum

Was this jerking at idle or when you were driving?  Unfortunately maf, o2, temp sensor, give much the same syptoms.  A faulty coil pack gives a slightly different sensation of being fecked but its hard to describe, you'll know when you have had both and can make the comparision!

You say you have vag com so I would check for missfires on idle, if its only the one cylinder, move swap that coil pack to a different cylinder and see if it follows it, if so its a coily to blame.  Get someone to sit in the car with you and log the readings from the Maf, at redline in any gear you should be getting a peak of 120 g/s reading.  There are some excellent Ross-Tech write ups on this which explain the procedure in more detail.

In my experience a coil pack doesn't fail intermittently, it just goes!  Whereas a maf or o2 sensor will start to play up intermittently before it becomes a permanent problem and I would bet that one of these is the issue.

The other possibility is is that your red line jaunt dislodged some crap in the fuel line / injectors and was just getting burnt off.  Some redex through the system wouldn't be a bad idea and a regular thrash to keep her clean is always fun  :grin:

I'm having ismilar problems on acceleration in that if i take the car over 5000 RPM in the gear shift it seems to lose power instead of gain power and jump :s

Na its not jerking anymore, pi55in me off is whats its doing!! drove to work completly normal  :undecided:

it was when i was driving, just kept jerking when i accelerated...

hmmm!!! was hoping for something a bit more constructive then that!!! i dont want the problem to get worse, or even pack in all together when the mrs is driving!!

when was the last time the fuel filter was changed?  maybe when giving it the beans your not getting enough fuel through?  Did you try testing out the maf as described?

Just been reading this thread I know i've got a mk3 but having had a similar problem earlier this year it may help on other hand maybe totally irrelevant.

After many visits to the garage and constantly bombarding the mk3/garage section for ideas I took it to guy who knew what he was doing and rather than say 'sorry mate your ECU rubber ducked' he actually tested everything and found that using a breakout box at the ECU and then with a multimeter tested the continuity of all cables that go from the various sensors back up to the ECU.

What he was that the pulse cable from the hall sensor under the dizzy had been poorly repaired at one time in its life. When it was last repaired rather than crimp the cable as what is done in the factory it was soldered with a dry joint (cr*p joint) consequently after time the dry joint started to fall apart until it became a hairline crack right across. Depending on the smoothness or not of the road the wire was making an intermittent connection when accelerating. So the ECU wasn't always receiving the right or even constant information from the hall sender. And hey presto problem solved.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but it's the only way as I say mines a mk3 so it may or may not help. Good luck. :smiley:
