Standard ISO?
« on: 16 November 2007, 17:14 »
Anyone know where the standard ISO's go to in a MK3 gti? My current gti's iso connectors have been cut off so i want to trace it to where they plug in,if they do, and replace it, instead of wiring new iso connectors to the cut off wires if you know what i mean? does that make sense? cheers

you will probably be better off getting an iso kit from halfords wire it in then you can remove and fit stereos at your leisure, it is all part of the original loom so cant really unplug it you see,
i must buy a new car!

Cheers, right so what do i do about the wires where the original connecctors used to be? I went the scrapyard and cut some out of another car, as they are standard in all cars aint they? Could i just link them cut off wires with the connectors i got from the scrappy? Thing is aswell, the wires on the ones i got from the scrapyard are different colours to the ones in the car!

was it the same year? in theory i would have thought you could do that, but if you dont mind paying a tenner from halfords you can match the wires as they say what each wire does, but ideally you would want a voltmeter purely to find out where power is coming from i.e ignition live (red or brown i believe)  and constant, (yellow)
i think they will be the same colours on a mark 3 but dont quote me on that, so basically you should have a power switched and constant power and a live to get the stereo working. If you dont mind the stereo coming on wothout the ignition you could just join the constant power and switched wire from the stereo together making it easier, hope this all makes sense! then of course the speakers would need wiring in. But hell yeah if you can find the right iso in the scrappy by all means just fuse them together, ther will be other wires like orange for ilumination and poiwer antenna which you probably woint use.
i must buy a new car!

read the thread before this one started by spencer...wiring a new head unit to original wires. i have explained how to go by the job in there...u can still use the one u have got from the scrappy...you just need to know which is which wire. which i have explained also...in the event of having an iso patch lead that has different colours then it will require just the understanding of where each wire needs to be...but you can use the power lead from your after market radio that u may be putting in as a guide for where the power supplies need to be, earth and speakers!
I work for Halfords and wel..the patch lead from us costs £13.99 so if u have alredy got one, then you can still make do with that one! :-)
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???
