Help: Where to obtain PAS & Installing PAS
« on: 12 November 2007, 21:43 »
Hi Guys/Gals,

I'd like to know if anyone knows of a place where I could get a PAS kit to upgrade from manual to power steering?
I found http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g2steering.php but can't see the parts for changing from manual to PAS for so cheap?

What else would I need to do the change over? ( I am a complete newb  any help would be great )

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Seems to me a lot of work for no particular reason. Only on wide low profile tyres might this become a problem. A cheaper (and healthier) way is to do some exercises to improve your arm strength!

Yup, having just examined my pas set up intimately (burst pipe lots of smoke, typical vw part only lasted 18 years  ) you will also need the pipes which I am just beginning to understand are getting rare unless you want to shell out a wodge of cash on some nice braided hoses

Look @ the date I originally posted this thread.

Honestly.

I'm used to my manual steering now and love it. Back then I was used to a '57 plate Focus...  :lipsrsealed:

fitting PAS guide...

I've posted a tonne of useful information and diagrams here. Should come in handy for a steering woes.

PAS Pump
Pump Bracket + Bolts (2x 6" and 1x 2" which replace the water pump bolts. 3x 1" and 1x 4" for those which secure the bracket to the lower and rear of the block)
Hoses
Resevoir and Bracket
Rack
Belt
UJ joint from lower steering column to rack
Pulley Setup - Depending on the year of your car it could either need
* Double crank pulley, a water pump pulley, slip pulley for water pump and PAS pump pulley
* Double crank pulley, shallow depth water pump pulley (to prevent belt rubbing) and PAS pump pulley
