mk3 prices
« on: 12 November 2007, 18:59 »
I know knowone will want to admit this, as its in the mk3 section and you will own mk3's.
Has anyone noticed mk3 prices seam to of nosedived in last few months or even last 6 months to a year, when i was looking a year or two ago they were a lot dearer

I ts seams they still fetch good prices if in very good condition, but I guess with age now most are tatty and ropey so drag prices down

I find there is such a huge!!! gap in prices between mk3's and mk4's, I mean a late mk3 r reg and an early mk4 say r or s reg is such a huge difference more than other makes it seams.
I guess its as the mk3 is gettin old now and is an early 90's design, were as mk4's are newer and were made until 2004-5 so still relitively modern. There will  be a huge demand for quality modern motors/pretige etc but at the lower end prices(as heard from sources) hence why i guess the prices are still silly for and early mk4's(dunno why as there not the same as post 2001 models, i.e had mechanical cable accelerator and various other things that changed on post 2001 models) and mk3's prices are getting cheap

even mk2's seam to be no different to mk3's now where as they were twice the price even a year or two ago, not trying to make mk3's sound bad im just stating what ive seen. I think mk3's are all on condition now to get good prices, but as most are problematics or ropey it takes longer to sell a good one, just to get people to see it at a higher price.
Some guy I knew looked at 6 before finding a good one as most were so leggy, when described better than they were.
sorry this is a bit garbled just curious what others thought

i don't think the mk3 prices have really dipped that much, I bought mine may 2006 and looked at many and they varied in price between £800 to £1800 (the ones i looked at did anyhow) all the £800-£1200 ones were dreadfull and not worth buying and looking now these are from £650 (and still dread full!)
I do see the price difference between the mk4 tho and to be honest I don't think there worth more! and they have the same relaibility issues as the mk3...
mk2 prices are on the up! as they are getting rarer (decent ones) and still give a great drive..... I looked at a 205gti and they are now on the up to!! that 80's feeling must be going around still?

There is only one Mk4 worth buying and thats the 1.8T they tend to keep their price level but anything else should be falling now.

Think we should have a drive to either scarp the tatty ones or do them up!
Prices would rise a little then!

Im not so sure ive been looking the last few days as a benchmark to what mines worth and there are still a few like mine, late R reg A/C low miles etc etc fetching high prices(well over £2.5k anyway)
while ive seen decent MK4 1.8 T for £3.5 (so its going to cost me £1k!!!) if i decide on that route in the next couple of months...... dont forget xmas is here and prices always fall off before and after that...

mine cost me 750 about 7 month ago, and didnt look all that great tbh, but i could see beyond the dirt etc as it has almost full history, low owners and low miles, i bought it for its engine etc not the bodywork as its a runner, but once i worked my magic its come out great, etter than what i expected and alot better than cars that would have cost twice what i payed, i belive i could sell it for more than i payed. i get some great compliments on it too.

Think its much harder to sell modified cars...and for some reason i prefere mk3's to lok fairly standard, theirs a few chavvy mods iv seen for them now, wont say as people are easily offended...

and the mk 4 is still classed as a current model and is much more sought after, hence the prices, and it dont matter if its a 1.8t or just  a 2.0, they will all be worth alot more than mk3's

i saw a cheep mk4 1.8t round leeds the other week tho, was a early example up for 2400k cant remember the miles on it but it was over 100k...

i think they are dipping in price aswell, when i bought my N plate 8v a year ago, i got it for £1000, 125k but rock solid body work, dragon green, but all of the ones in the papers at the time were £2500 etc, now theres loads at the lower price scale, mind you, alot are scabby now. but i have always loved mk3's, even when they were 'unloved' ive had 5 of them now , Ive got my cheeky 2.0 8v gti which does the job for me ( well it will when ive got the speedo working ! )... & I quite fancy a mk3 estate with a little bit of 'suspension workage'    once ive finished stripping my VR6

ive had 5 of them now

Can i just ask why???

why not just keep 1 of them if it was so good???  i dont see the point in buying 5?

also may i just add i think any car will drop in value, no matter what brand it is, they usually hit their base price and get no lower, maybe we are at that right now...
