does anybody actually know what the differences are between an awsome remap and a bluefin? people just seem to be saying "i've heard" that the bluefin just ups the boost. i would like to go the bluefin route because it seems really easy to swap maps if you ever need to. you can also sell it on and recoup some of your hard earned if and when you sell your car. after reading a few threads, there seems to be a bit of feeling against the bluefin, although anyone who has had one seems to sing its praises. they all seem to be about the same price give or take, and they all seem to give roughly the same bhp and torque gains.the more i read the more confused your all making me  can someone out there convince me which one to go for please!

no one can convince you which to buy its a very personal choice based on so many weighted factors.

Bluefin indeed looks very useable (not sure you could sell it on , as new owner would still need a map that suits their car)
Personally I am only making decisions on how quick products were put to market , the amount of R&D done for a new product , the level of support, any proof , owner experiences , and for some established companies how they dealt with remaps etc for older cars.
Its only an opinion. And often we also taken into account 'trusted' opinions of some members of forum etc.

There are many happy people with bluefin cars , so if based on your own research you want to go that way then

All ED30 maps seem to go to around 300 bhp
Given my trawls of the forums REVO , APR or Oettinger would be my current choice once I have run the car in.
I also need the cruise control , so getting that fitted + switchable maps is a huge benefit

have I helped at all ? nope prob not  but my impression of brand x may be completely different to yours

let us know what you choose.
in the end rejoice that the ED30 is a tuners dream

True.. but how many people are likely to still have their cars for more than 5-6yrs?? In theory we all would because we are happy with them. The only thing we fail to account for is when a new one is released

From what I understand APR keep within the manufacturers safety limits built in the ECU, they do not remove them, particularly EGT, which is an issue with TFSI engine. I have heard that some of the other tuners have removed some of these to get the gains they have easily. This was one of the reasons I used APR and the fact I've used them before with no issues. Like other people have said its down to personal choice.

Too true!

The longest I have had a car over the last 7 years is 18 months and the least being just 2 months. People who have a decent disposable income will always want the next best thing that comes out and I'm afraid I would have to count myself in that bracket too :embarassed:

Engine longevity in this instance has never been of prime importance to me and that is why I am tempted. I have remapped my previous four cars and this is the first one that I have thought twice about remapping. Whether it is because I just love it as it is, or whether it is the fact I might break the 2 year barrier with this car I don't know :undecided:

My wifeee has also expressed the preference that this is the best car that I have bought so far and even she loves it, so this is another reason for me not to remap it as it may eventually become the second car.

A switchable map could be the best of both worlds as I would only tend to switch the map on the occasions when I venture out of the urban sprawl and and for meets, 1/4 miles etc. This would mean that the engine and gearbox lifespan wouldn't be significantly reduced and that the wifee would be able to enjoy the car longer

the issue of longevity isn't really a problem, you cannot use 300bhp all of the time, and the rest of the time your not really working the engine so hard as there is no need to rev it so much you just drive on the increased torque.
There are plenty of remapped 1.8T out there with a 150k on them with no major issues I don't see the 2.0T being any different as long as you look after it, warm up properly, run down, oil changes etc., which we probably all do anyway.
