I Sense one of these is in your future: http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0006&product=FMFSITVR

I highly recommend it, and its pretty simple to fit with easy instructions. You'll spend a bit of time on your back though, unless you get a garage to do it.

Yep

It's still controlled by the ECU so no setup is required. Turn the key and its working.

This post has me slightly worried.  I get no turbo sound/whistle inside the cabin when the windows are closed - only a hiss sound when i let go of the accelerator.  I do however get a slight whistle as i accelerate if my window is open.  Car has done 8700 miles or so.  Could my car be suffering as well?  First time i've owned a turbo car so not 100% what i should be looking out for.  The car has recently come back from a "tiptronic ecu" replacement as there was a fault whenever I put the car in full manual mode.  They did a full diagnostic test after and there were no error logs.

Also, are there any warranty issues if i fit the forge dv?

You can't really hear the turbo on the GTI that much. If you really press it then you do get a noticeable whistle but under normal circs, no

Forge DV shouldn't affect your warranty as all it does is divert the air. It doesn't boost any pressure or up the power, or put the engine under any extra stress at all. In fact the Forge DV is a higher spec and if anything should help the cars reliability. :nerd:

I wouldn't worry mate. If the diverter valve is doing its job you shouldn't hear anything, except maybe a slight hiss when you back off the throttle. Even then you would have to have the radio off to even slightly hear it.

You'll know straight away if its losing pressure. Look out for the revs lagging when you apply the throttle and a drop in acceleration. If you really are worried then ask the stealer to take the valve off and check it. It takes 5 minutes.

Thanks for the replies so far. I thought the car seemed less agile than expected from the word go, but I didn't want to hold the accelerater flat to check. Anyways, I get no hiss on lift-off, no whistle on full gas, no nothing.  The big giveaway is the crap power above 2500 in 4th, 5th, or 6th - so something is definitely wrong.  I had a 2litre 16v astra a number of years ago, and it feels just like that in terms of power.  i.e. non-turbo.  Stealers said 'these things happen with modern cars'. WTF ?!??  After shelling out that kind of money I expect the car to have been checked - PDI anyone ??

Oh well, she goes in on Monday to get 'looked at' by stealers.  I will report back after that.  After all those months of waiting, the whole thing feels like a bit of a let-down now.

Pretty shocking but in my case the last few cars i've had must have consisted of the guys in the garage ragging the car for a few miles 1st before handover.  All the new performance cars I have had were delivered about 8 miles on the clock and an average MPG in the low teens.  How else can that be explained??

Maybe that's what blew your turbo???

I know its real shame to have it happen , but hopefully it will be and easy fix.
Have you tried getting someone to rev it with the bonnet up , to see if you can hear an obvious leak?
Have you had anything fitted recently that may have disturbed something e.g. an electrical connector or a hose?

obv you want a dealer to fix it , but id be too curious and have to look under the bonnet for the obvious stuff

I' new to this car , but isnt there the air con trick that shows boost ?

re: mpg from new , I dont think that value is really much of an indicator , but yes it is down to chance!

Good luck and remember to report back
