Hi guys,

Great site and  I make sure to visit everyday and a special thanks to Hurdy who pointed me in the direction of an annoying creak over my left shoulder which did indeed turn out to be the rear seat clip.A couple of squirts of the old WD40 and glorious silence. If I could only get the car as lively as my 05 car ,mileage now just 7k, as it is ,imho well lacking, whilst not absolutely slow.Stealer could find no problem, what a surprise, but I read of some members getting ECU software updates. Are these for any particular reason as I was told there was none for my car.Any ideas.

Regards,

Eric

I assume yours is an Ed30? Perhaps you were expecting a little too much from it?

OR perhaps it needs an Ecu upgrade, maybe the turbo has issues.... Im not a mechanic unfortunatly.

No,its not an ED30,Volkswagen Ireland did not import them here for whatever reason. It's a GTi pure and simple.Like yourself I am not a mechanic and as I said stealer said there was no upgrade required for anything and if there was a problem with the turbo, would it show on their equipment? Hopefully someone will reply who is of the technical variety.

Hello Eric...
Just replying cos I don't see many other Irishmen on this board
Coincidentally, I also have an intermittent squeak somewhere in the back too, I think mine's coming from the plastic moldings rubbing off each other though, and not the seat back. I also have the dreaded creaking from the centre dash vent (rubbish plastics)... must look into that soon.
Can't say I notice any problem whatsoever with the performance, but then again I didn't have one previously like you...

Anyone else had a problem with the little rubber balls that pull the parcel shelf up when you open the boot?  Mine are now sellotaped to the parcel shelf as they knock against the boot and shelf when going over a speed bump at more than 10mph.  Very annoying it is too!

My rear seats rattled and squeaked too.  A little bit of black electrical tape around the catches that hold the seat in place did the trick for me.  Just got to sort out the rattles from the centre console now.  So much for VW build quality...

I used velcro to stop the centre console rattle
