reading this thread and a lot of other threads on this forum has made me realise that there are a small element of completely self obsessed idiots that like to call traffic police 'w8nkers' etc, boast about running from the police, racing, max speed runs, some others are boasting about insurance pricing by 'fronting' etc etc.. where are the moderators!! the forum looses credibility as a result.

I enjoy driving, dont get me wrong, but in the right road and in the right conditions and if I was caught commiting a road traffic offence then fair enough, I know the law, hillclimbing or trackdays are where we can test cars to the limit or really speed!

The majority of traffic police are there to try to make our lives safer, I know a few traffic police (my old girlfriends old man was an ex head of traffic police !!) and I have a huge amount of respect for them, they risk their lives sometimes too you know! sure there are some bad eggs, but in general you cant complain if your caught!

I'm sure I will get a lot angry comments about this... but its only my opinion and I wont be lurking on this forum from now on as these few indiviuals spoil this forum! so will look elsewhere for info on my gti mk5!

No angry comments from me. As far as I am concerned cops often have the opportunity to make public relations alot better but fail to do so.. Not saying that we dont need traffic cops but they could more often than not, be better deployed. Many of the traffic laws were made before the wheel was invented and do nothing to take into consideration the advances in modern engineering or driver skill.

Getting back to the point GRANTW.. just because people on this forum talk about this kind of stuff doesnt mean that if you stop reading it, its likely to go away. There are some real loons on the roads these days, and most of them dont choose to register on forums. If your caught then fair enough your entitled to whine if you feel you have been harshly done by... Unless like me you choose not to get caught.

p.s. You can happily go elsewhere to get ur info copsucker

GrantW. TRy visit VwVortex. Guys get banned there everyday for posting racer stories. My father used to race cars and motorbikes and I have been with him once or twice when he has had some fun with a M3 or Subaru etc in our GTI. Now you may argue that driving with a child at high speed is irresponsible. But we have been fined evertime we have had fun with another car (No lies) and you pay it.

I think that if you get the opportunity to smoke a copper then do it. Do you have any idea how often you pay fines that have been fined under illegal terms? For example. In South Africa. If you get find within 300 metres of the camera warning sign it illegal. My dad saved R2000 the other day. Its the same as in South Africa when a cop is trapping his vehicle and himself have to be completely visable from I think it was 500m. I suggest you download the road laws for the UK and see just how many time you have actually been fined illegally.

So in my honest opinion. He drives a R32. He has the power, so why not? If you get the chance not to be buggered over by a cop then go for it.

08micsta, here's a few reasons why not.

1) Cops have radios. They can radio other cops in other cars or in a helicopter if you're unlucky.

2) Cops have eyes. They can read your numberplate and find out where you live

3) Cops have CCTV cameras, so even if they don't catch your plate, they can find out what it was.

4) Some people like me see the police as a generally good thing in society, and though we might occasionally slip up, we really don't want to waste their time

5) Some people like me get stressed out at the prospect of being a fugitive from the rozzers. Right now, I feel completely fine driving past the police. I want it to stay that way.

6) Some people like me hope to never be on the road near people trying to flee the law, because they're hardly likely to be driving safely, stopping at lights, watching out for pedestrians and other cars...

7) If you do get a few points on the licence, big deal. It costs a bit more for a bit to insure your car, and you're a bit more careful in the future - hardly the end of life as we know it.

There are just a few reasons 'why not'. (Just wanted to give the other side of the argument! No offence meant!)

Micsta,
you can't reconcile your fathers behaviour in South Africa with comments like "if you can smoke a copper then do it" and "we have been fined everytime we have had fun with another car"

It's a tricky subject but in my experience a level of of responsibility and 'ownership' often leads to reasonable reconciliation.

I agree with most of those points... Only the example I was talking about was at 2am in morning a couple of streets away from where I live. I drove past a small side street just as a police volvo was turning the way I was coming from. I noticed in my rear view that they were turning around and the blue lights were on. I simply turned into a few back streets at first opportunity and lost them.. luckily i managed to pull into my garage as stated. Im not likely to get into a full out chase as 08Mista said but I am sure things are slightly different in SA where maybe its the norm. It certainly isn’t where I live. I just feel that had I stopped and been given a ticket it would not have benefited anyone. I would have had 3 points and a fine. Wasted police time where they could have been out catching people committing burglaries at that time in the morning, not mention saving tax payers money. Yes I know the police get wrong.. we all do. But if I get the opportunity to make sure their mistakes are not highlighted by 3 points on my licence then I am going to take it. I am happy to use my own judgement.. You would not catch me going over the speed limit down a residential road at 3pm but when the roads are clear and its 2 in the morning.. I just drive as fast as I feel comfortable and safe.

GRANTW... when did I say it was OK to outrun police. there are certain instances where I have felt I am being unnecessarily picked upon by the police.. and if they were honest about it then they would also tell you that they approached me because of my appearance and the car i drive. That is whats known as prejudice. i dont punch every copper i see just because I was once punched by one! So yes I do dislike police.. but it doesnt mean that they are all bad and I know that, but many dont do much to rectify the image they have.

He has a r32 so why not?!! LOL.. my other car is a new xkr (gti is my daily commute) I dont drive like an inconsiderate nutter when I am in that either. I have been caught in the past for speeding (more than 6 years ago now and as  Andy b says, 3 points is hardly the end of the world) but why people complain?? we all know the laws, and we know however controversial speed cameras are we know they are out there!!

'My father used to race cars and motorbikes and I have been with him once or twice when he has had some fun with a M3 or Subaru etc in our GTI. Now you may argue that driving with a child at high speed is irresponsible. But we have been fined evertime we have had fun with another car (No lies) and you pay it.'

hmm, dont fully follow you there on the last bit, but racing m3's and subaru's in your GTI is up to you and your father, if you want to really see what your car can do, safely for other road users, then go on the track!
