I am going to use a set of twin Webber 40's on my mk1 turbo. I've just picked up a cheap set that need rebuilding until I can find a decent & cheap digi1 setup. I'm having a manifold made up by my house mate to suit the limited space down the back of the head. I will tell you how I get on as at the moment that?s as much as I know. I just need to get it running to prove the set up works

i know that you have to remove the scuttle panel ....

so i have done that...

just finding that my engine wont tune any sense, so i am trying to find other options to deal with sh!t tickover.... and pinking like a bastard!!!

When is the engine pinking? Is it at high revs, tick over or whey you accelerate? Could be the fuel pump if your still using the original mk1. 45's should give you enough fuel but maybe they need setting up better. What?s the rest of your setup like? Are you using the original mk1 engine are trying something else. I would like to know how you get on with the 45?s.

i have a 2.1 litre race engine with mega big cam 320 degrees still with the standard injection system and it pinks like feck when you accelerate up from 3000rpm i am trying to find out weather it is worth me putting another ?1000 into the engine to fit 45's, if so ill do it....and very soon to
it really is a nightmare to drive at the moment ticks over at 700 when cold and 2000 when hot ????

If your engine is pinking, check the ignition timing. With a conversion like yours a rolling road session would be money well spent as standard settings no longer apply.Try to adjust the ignition timing (retard it) on the road a small amount at a time untill the pinking stops. As for the idle, if you have a wild cam in there you will never get a good smooth idle due to the big overlap race cams have. If you fit a pair of 45's, I doubt it will improve the idle by a vast amount. If the fuel injection is set up properly it will be as good as you will get. Should get more power with the 45's tho.
Steve.

Are you still using the mechanical injection? If your using 1.8 injection system on a 2.1 L engine this will defiantly starve your engine at higher revs. I know of a bloke who has a Fiesta mk1 with a turboed zetech engine still on mechanical injection and he uses early Porsche 911 injectors and a RS Turbo metering unit to get enough fuel. What kind of power are you pushing? That?s a serious cam your using there. Steve?s right you will never get a decent idle with that cam, too much air pulse but some serious pull up top I bet. I can?t imagine it?s going to cost a grand to fit a set of 45?s unless your buying brand new. What intake manifold are you thinking of using and is it a cross flow or counter flow head?

Standard k jet injection is good for about 150+ hp, so I doubt that it is leaning off at high revs (unless there is something wrong with it). I am using a form of k jet and have a lot more power than that  :P.

i am going to buy a new kit from TSR if i can and then get Sigma in gillingham to fit and rolling road it.

the injection system is flapping real bad you can hear it struggling

the car pulls like hell in the powerband and revs incredibly fast the 16v gear box on it at the moment just isnt long enough

mind you the car weighs in at only 600kgs!!!!!!

its pulling 190bhp on the rollers at the moment.....with webbers i was
hoping for power over 200bhp

i can whip my mates 300bhp scooby wrx to 100mph

sigma recon they can adjust the advance curve inside the distributor and it shouldnt pink then but they recon that webbers would stop the erratic tickover and give more torque in top gears 3rd.4th.5th ;D

looked at the data from the cam and it has 12mm of lift!!!
