Dead-Head (UNIT)
« on: 21 October 2007, 00:02 »
HI Guys,

Just got a couple of questions, I have a mk3 gti, and a buddy of mine just gave me a kenwood hu out of his old car to replace my sony cdx-4160rds (I think it's oe)

When I pulled it out I discovered, that the connectors are totally different, so... I said I'd pop inside and check with you guys to see what the options are, only now when I slid the original hu back in it won't switch on...

It has power alright as it can eject a cd when you press the reset button, but there is no go from it at all.... Not even a clock display

Any ideas......

Obvious question really, but have you had the head unit out of the centre console and tried operating it whilst it is out. When doing this trying moving the wiring connections in the back to see if it brings it back to life?

If all the connections look okay then maybe you will have to pop the HU casing open as there maybe a dry connection inside.

No joy... but I'm still not totally sure on teh switched power thing...

There must be power to it if the cd mechanism is working.... Why now no turn on!!!

Okay,

In the cold hard light of day, as opposed to the frankly piss-poor light of the map light, I have worked out the problem (spade connector one side, bullet the other... mating difficulties... I think the spade got brewer's droop)

But I am still wondering what is the best way to wire the new hu... Just snip and solder where appropriate, and what about the blue wire, with little gold squares, what does that little fella do....

And I would have to agree on the Mk5 dsg (esp with the bbs ch's) yummy!!!
