Vented Carbonfibre Bonnet...
« on: 20 October 2007, 19:16 »
Recently fitted an OSIR carbonfibre double skin bonnet with vent above the turbo area. It's designed to bolt directly onto all the stock brackets etc and is very rigid being double skin. It's a good fit too and is feather light. It doesn't really increase performance but the most heat under the bonnet is around the turbo and the vent definitely extracts a lot of it. My bonnet is never hot now, though it was never approaching melting point!

I decided to paint all the exterior. I would have painted the sides to leave just the flat centre carbon but it would look too sparkly and grey in reality (only really black in photos according to the lighting angle) and attract unwanted attention. Also I have other carbon components visible and it would have made it all OTT.

....So sexy that ladies volunteer to clean under my bonnet! Yes, she did actually volunteer - I thought she was teasing me at first when she asked if I had any cleaning materials with me.

Looks very good. right decision to paint it IMO. What is the weight saving over the stock bonnet?

Double skin OSIR = 8 Kg / 17 lb

Nice,
All you need now  is to replace the blue VW badge and blue filler caps to finish it off under there.

....Agreed. I've also seen a carbon cover for that area somewhere - Eurojet perhaps.
